Replacement Electric Brake Assemblies for Camper with AL-KO T52 Axles

Updated 04/09/2018 | Published 04/06/2018

Question:

Hi I have Al Ko T52 5,200 lb axles on my camper and cannot find al Ko brakes locally. The description for these brakes says they fit most major hub and axle assemblies. Does that include my axles? And if so are these the correct replacement brakes? Also it a a tandem axle trailer, should all 4 be replaced at the same time? Thank you!

The Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Assemblys - Left Hand # 23-180 referenced in your question is rated for 7,000 pound axles. For the AL-KO T52 5,200 pound axles on your trailer, I instead recommend the etrailer.com Electric Trailer Brake Kit # AKEBRK-7-SA. These assemblies are designed for your 5,200 pound axles, measure 12 inches x 2 inches, and will indeed work with your AL-KO drums. You will just want to make sure the 5 bolt mounting pattern on these units match the pattern on your axle's mounting flange.

These self-adjusting brakes will also not require any periodic manual adjustments like standard brakes, and both the Left Hand and Right Hand assemblies are included. If you need just the Left Hand you can use # AKEBRK-7L-SA or for just the Right Hand # AKEBRK-7R-SA. I have attached a short installation video that you can also use for reference.

As long as the remaining brake assemblies on your trailer are in good working order, there is no reason you can't just replace the units in question. With that being said, brake assemblies should technically be wearing at the same rate, so if one or more assemblies are worn, most likely they are all worn. Replacing all the brakes on your trailer at the same time will also allow for a more routine maintenance schedule, rather than having to go back and forth to the shop (or replacing them at home) at more frequent intervals.
