Adding 7-Way and 4-Way to 2017 Toyota Tacoma Without Tow Package

Published 03/01/2018

Question:

Hi, I read on a forum that you could use this part #HM40975-11998 on the 2017 Tacoma. My truck did not come with a tow package so I am told I need to buy the wiring harness C56282 and cut off the 4 pin plug to wire up the pigtail from the HM40975-11998. I am confused because the HM40975-11998 has more wires than the 4 pin plug. Is there a link to a video or steps on how to wire this truck. My goal is to have the tow wiring harness look stock so having this HM40975-11998 part mounted in the bumper is what Im going for. I am just trying to figure out how to wire everything together. Thanks.

The reason the 7-Pole and 4-Pole Trailer Connector Sockets # HM40975-11998 has more wires than the 4-pin is because this part is used for a 7-way and 4-way. We can help accomplish your goal but first you would first need to add 4-way # HM43354. From there you will need # 5506, which is similar to the # ETBC7, to get the functions of the 7-way and you can then hardwire # HM40975-11998 to get the look you want.

There is no video for how to accomplish specifically what you want to do, so you'll need to wire your vehicle by function. Use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to find the functionality of the wires and connect them that way. I've added links to help articles and some installation videos which I think will be useful for you.
