Solution for 2017 Toyota Tacoma that Has Suspension Sag When Towing

Question:

I have a 2017 Toyota Tacoma SR5 Sport, Double Cab. With my 2013 Somerset Off Road Popup Trailer 3500# GVWR 350# Tongue Wt attached I get about a 1.5-2.0inch sag in the rear truck suspension which causes handling problems. Will these Sumo Springs eliminate that much sag?

For your 2017 Toyota Tacoma the correct SumoSpring kit is the part # SSR-612-47 and not the kit you mentioned as that is for the older models. This will reduce the sag but what you might be better off with is a weight distribution system since that reduces the sag too but in doing so helps improve braking and handling as it distributes some of the tongue weight up to the front axle.

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.

The part # RP66082 has as tongue weight range of 200 to 600 lbs and features only sway control that works to prevent sway before it starts.

For a 2 inch ball you would want part # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball # 19286.
