Can Spare Tire on 2016 Ford Transit Connect be Removed with Curt Trailer Hitch Installed
Published 10/27/2017 >
Question:
It looks like the sides of my 2016 Transit Connect are too low to drag the spare tire/wheel out, and only the back looks high enough. If I put the hitch on, will I still have clearance to be able to drag the spare out under the back underneath the hitch?

Once the Curt trailer hitch # C13167 is installed on a 2016 Ford Transit Connect it will measure about 3 inches from the bottom of the rear bumper to the bottom of the hitch. If you measure from level ground up to the bottom of the bumper and subtract 3 inches that is the approximate location the bottom of the hitch will be. As long as the width of the spare tire is less than the remaining space you will be able to get it out from under the vehicle.
It looks like the width on the regular 4 tires on the van are about 8-1/2 inches wide. The spare may or may not be the exact same size as the other tires but this is a good place to start.
Thus far no one has complained about not being able to get the spare tire out!
