Question:
My 2016 gmc seirra is the work model. I asked the dealer about putting a factory integrated electric brake controller on the truck. He said it did not have the right wiring. Does this mean I have to buy something special to put an electric brake controller on my truck? It has a 7 pin connector.

Since your 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 already has a 7-way trailer connector at the rear of the vehicle then all you will need to install a brake controller is the brake controller and wiring harness adapter. I am not sure what the "work model" of your truck entails but if you have a brake controller wiring harness under you dash then you can use the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers part # 3016 to install a brake controller like the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90195.
If your truck does not have the factory brake controller plug-in under the dash then the brake controller comes with a universal harness that will need to be hardwired into the vehicle's electric system. I have attached an installation video of a brake controller install on a similar 2011 GMC Sierra for you as well.
