Solution for Blue Ox Base Plate Kit that Got Bent with Older Style Tow Bar

Published 10/13/2017

Question:

I recently purchased a BX1128 Base plate from etrailer and had it installed by a local auto shop. i just completed a 3000 mi RV trip towing my 2013 Grand Cherokee. Along the way I found the the tabs had been slightly bent at the attachment point to the tow bar, a Blue OX Adventa BX7330 to the point where I can barely get the lynch pin out. This tow bar has only a single Lug. I contacted Blue OX technical staff and they said the reason it bent was because i didnt have the three lug design and I need a new tow bar. it seems to me Blue Ox should advise this in their specifications but thats another issue. I see that Blue OX offers an three lug adapter, BX88151 but doesnt mention it fitting the Adventa. Am I missing something or could it be used on my tow bar? I have had this tow bar for a long time and used it on a 1997 and a 2002 Grand Cherokee with Blue Ox base plates and never had this problem. Thanks for your help.

Blue Ox is correct. The adapter you mentioned is for fitting a Blue Ox base plate to a Roadmaster tow bar so it would not work for you. Only safe solution you have at this time is to go to a newer tow bar which has the correct lug style and replace your bent removable tabs.

The # BX7380 would be a solid choice for a tow bar that would work well and then for replacement tabs you'd want the # BX62-3468.
