Troubleshooting Curt Gooseneck Ball In 2016 Ram 2500 with Factory Rail Kit Stuck in Hitch
Updated 06/25/2020 | Published 08/27/2017 >
Question:
I have a 2016 Ram 2500 with factory gooseneck hitch. When I bought it, there was a curt I believe ball already installed. Now I need to remove it and nothing I seem to do will release it. I have oiled it, tapped it with mallet and still nothing. The ball swivels around easily so I do not believe it is just rusted or stuck. It seems like the pin is not releasing the balls like it should. Any ideas?

I spoke with my contact at Curt and he had a way for you to release the ball from the underside of the hitch.
From underneath of the vehicle the customer will have to remove the cover/plug on the bottom of the ball if there is one. This will reveal the internals of the ball. Inside the ball he will see the metal bar that holds the balls in place(see attached photo). He will need to rotate the bar 90 degrees to release the balls that lock it in place. The internals of the ball will likely fall out the bottom of the ball at that point.

Had 60692 curt ball stuck in my 19 Duramax from previous owner, took the pin out of the top and dropped the release rod down through the bottom. Then had to use a punch and magnet to knock the two ball bearings out. I used WD the night before and then again the next morning. Hope this helps!!! it was a very trying job
