Electric Over Hydraulic Disc Kit Recommendation for 2006 Zieman Boat Trailer with Surge Brakes
Updated 06/19/2017 | Published 06/17/2017 >
Question:
Hello, I have a tandem axle 2006 Zieman boat trailer with surge brakes and disk brakes on both axles. I want to convert this to electric over hydraulic brakes and use the factory brake controller on my 2015 GMC Yukon Denali. The trailer with the boat on it weights about 7k lbs. The vehicle has a 7 pin plug. What parts do I need, and how do you lockout the surge controller on the tongue? Thanks,

Expert Reply:
What you need first is an electric over hydraulic actuator which will allow you to activate the current hydraulic disk brakes you have. Your current brake assemblies and lines will work fine with this. The kit you need that comes with everything you'd need is the Hydrastar part # HS381-9067. Hydrastar actuators are the favorite here among our installers as they work the best and are the most reliable.
You can lock out your surge actuator by running a bolt through the two pieces as that's one way to do it, or you can have the two pieces welded together.
