Question:
I want to purchase a hitch for my 2015 Subaru Outback Limited 2.5i. The Triton ATV-88 trailer that I am considering buying weighs 360 lbs with a maximum carrying capacity of 1,520 lbs. Which trailer would be the lightest in weight and provide the most ground clearance? Also, is the recommended hitch made in the USA? Thank you

Expert Reply:
We offer both 1-1/4-inch Class II and 2-inch Class III trailer hitches for your 2015 Subaru Outback Limited 2.5i. When there is such a choice we always recommend going with the larger 2-inch Class III hitch since it will have higher weight capacity and be more compatible with the majority if hitch-mount accessory items.
The actual weight of hitches varies very little and ground clearance depends on many factors other than the hitch, such as passenger load, cargo load, and tire size, condition and inflation pressure. You can refer to the video for more on hitch clearance with this item.
Of the Class III hitch options shown on the linked page I suggest the USA-made Curt # C13206 which includes all required mounting hardware. Installation on a 2015 Outback is shown in the linked video. Towing will require a ball mount, hitch ball and a wiring harness for the trailer lights.
For wiring you can use 4-pole harness kit # C56040 and for a ball mount and hitch ball kit our part # 989900 which include two ball mounts with different rise/drop and two sizes of hitch ball, both 1-7/8-inch and 2-inch.
