Recommended 4 Bike Rack Compatible With Class I Hitch Receiver On 2012 Toyota Prius V

Your website has been great and super helpful. I am considering purchasing hitch 24847 for my 2012 prius v. I fully understand that as a Class 1 hitch I can only load two bikes. I am thinking of purchasing the Yakima Ridgeback 4 which is only 3 pounds heavier than the 2 and only mounting 2 bikes on it for now obviously on the mounts closest to the car. My thought is that I can use it on the prius v now and when I upgrade to a larger vehicle in the future I can get a class 2 hitch and load it with 4 bikes. Any problem with my logic? Thanks!!!

As far as the bike rack goes, you absolutely can get a 4 bike rack now, only using 2 bikes for now and upgrading your vehicle at a later date. That is sound logic. The only issue is the Yakima RidgeBack 4 Bike Rack - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Tilting # Y02458 will not fit a Class I hitch. It will only fit a Class II hitch. The issue is that the manufacturers weld a stop on the inside of the Class 1 hitches to ensure people don't overload them, so some accessories will not fit...like this bike rack.
For a rack with similar features, I recommend the Thule Apex XT 4 Bike Rack for 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches # TH9025XT. This rack will fit a Class I hitch receiver and has the integrated cable lock an hitch lock with anti-rattle. For hanging style racks, I also recommend the Swagman Deluxe Bike Frame Adapter Bar for Women's, Children's, and Alternative Frame Bikes # 64005. This adapter will allow for a level ride and greater ground clearance.
