Ground Clearance for Draw-Tite Class I Sport Frame Receiver Hitch on 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV
Published 04/20/2017 >
Question:
2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV: I know that your Curt hitch C11457 fits this car and is the one GM sells through their genuine GM accessories. Curts earliest version of this receiver was purchased and installed by an early Bolt owner who showed only a 7inch clearance between the bottom and the road I believe that Curt may have modified it since then but the photo on your website shows a receiver hanging rather low. It looks like there now is a DrawTite model which is compatible with my car. #24956 and doesnt look like it has as much . Do you know what the clearance between hitch and road is for the Drawtite model?

I spoke with my contact at Draw-Tite and he stated that the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch # 24956, which is confirmed to fit your 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV, has a measurement from the ground to the top of the receiver when installed on your vehicle of 11 inches. So this will provide some more ground clearance when compared to the 7 inches for the Curt hitch that you mentioned in your question. This hitch will provide a 200 pound tongue weight capacity and no drilling will be required during installation.
In addition to the improved ground clearance, I also recommend the Draw-Tite Hitch because unlike the Curt model, it does not require all non-trailer loads such as bike racks and cargo carriers to be supported by stabilizing straps.
I have attached the installation details on this trailer hitch for you to check out.
