Question:

I have a Carry-on 6X8GW2KPT trailer. I would like to add brakes. Can you recommend brakes, drums, wiring kit and P/Ns? . . The brakes will be controlled by an in truck brake controller 2015 Chevy Colorado. thanks

Based on my research, it looks like your Carry-On 6X8GW2KPT Trailer has a 3,500 pound axle. If this is correct, you will need hub-and-drum and brake assemblies that are compatible with this axle.

To upgrade your idler hubs to hub-and-drum assemblies, you will also need to find assemblies that are compatible with the trailer spindle. The numbers stamped into your trailer's existing bearings and seals will help you determine this. If you cannot find the numbers, you can also measure the spindle using a digital caliper like # PTW80157. I have attached an image that shows the measurements you will need to take. You will also need to know the wheel bolt pattern of your existing hubs so that the new hubs will match up with your wheels. I have included an article that explains how to determine the bolt pattern.

For example, the etrailer.com Hub and Drum Assembly # AKHD-545-35-K is for 3,500 pound axles, has a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern and uses # L68149 inner bearing and # L44649 outer bearing.

Then for an electric brake assembly for 3,500 pound axles, I recommend looking at the 10 inch etrailer.com Kit # AKEBRK-35-SA. These will fit 13 to 15 inches wheels and has a 4 bolt mounting flange bolt pattern. This kit includes both the left hand and right hand electric brake assembly.

For wiring, you will need to run wire like # 10-1-1 from the front of the trailer to your trailer brakes to carry electric power to them. Each brake assembly should have 2 wires coming out of the back. You will attach one of the wires to the trailer for ground and the other wire will receiver power.
