  • Can Tow Vehicle with LED Lights Connect with Trailer that has Incandescent Lights
Assuming the lights and wiring on your older trailer are in good condition you will not have any issues connecting with and powering its standard incandescent lights with a tow vehicle that is equipped with LED lights. The difference in light assemblies used on the vehicle and trailer will not cause any problems with function or power. If you can tell me the year, make, and model of your tow vehicle I will be happy to recommend a trailer wiring harness if you don't already have one installed.

  • How to Wire LED Replacement Trailer Lights
If you are looking at and LED Trailer Tail Light like part # STL8RB, then you will not need a converter to make it compatible with the 4-Way Wiring Harness on your truck. You will need to figure out the wiring on your trailer to make sure that you get all of the wiring done correctly. You can use a Circuit Tester # I26 for that purpose. All you have to do is hook up your new LED lights using the following information. Brown is for tail lights Green is for stop and turn White is for ground The...

  • Troubleshooting LED Lights Not Working On Trailer
The first thing I recommend doing is to check that the ground wire for the lights is securely attached to a clean metal surface on the trailer frame. A loose ground wire will keep the lights from working. If the ground attached to the trailer does not give you an adequate ground, you can run the wire up to the ground circuit on the trailer connector. Next, you want to make sure the wiring on the trailer is wired correctly and wired by function, not just by color. I recommend using a...

  • All Trailer Lights Blink When One Turn Signal Is Activated
The most likely cause for the incorrect behavior of your trailer lights, where activating one turn signal causes all trailer lights to blink, is an insufficient ground (or a short to ground) on either the vehicle or the trailer. Since you re-wired your trailer, you can check for a secure ground connection at the trailer connector. Make sure the white ground wire is firmly secured to a clean bare-metal surface that is free of paint, rust and grease. Next check that the ground wire for the...

  • Can a Passenger Side Tail Light Be Used on the Driver Side of a Trailer
Left side tail lights have a clear lens on the bottom to light up the license plate. Right hand side tail lights do not. If you were to use the right hand side light, # STL8RB, you would need a separate light to illuminate the license plate. The left hand side light that matches is # STL9RB. If you click on the last picture on the product page, you will see the lens.

  • Troubleshooting Dim Turn Signals After Installing Load Resistors
It sounds like the ground connection may need to be improved. You want to make sure you have a bare metal to metal ground free of corrosion or debris. Load resistors should not have caused them to dim when installed properly. I've attached a photo of the installation for the Putco load resistors # DI34ZR to assist. If you did install this way, let me know and we can continue to troubleshoot.

  • How to How Trailer Taillights Get Wired Up
Trailer wiring colors can vary from trailer to trailer so it's not a reliable way to wire up a trailer. You will want to first determine which wire of each taillight signal carries the brighter and dimmer circuits. The dimmer of the two will be for the running lights and the brighter will be for the stop/turn circuit. Next, you will want to use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to test all of the wires on the trailer as it is connected to a tow vehicle and all of the taillight circuits...

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Running Lights Circuit of Vehicle Fuse Blowing with Ground Continuity
Finding continuity to ground on the running light circuit of your trailer indicates that the circuit has a short to the frame of the trailer most likely and is your problem. What you'll need to do is trace the circuit starting at the assemblies or connector and look for a short between the wire and the frame of the trailer. This is a very common problem and the solution is finding where the exposed wire is that's touching the trailer frame and fixing as needed. I also attached a help...

You can upgrade to LED lights but what I need to know is if the camper has the brake lights and turn signals on the same bulb or if it has separate amber turn signals. And if the camper does have combined brake and turn signals do you want to keep it that way or do you want to have separate turn signal and brake light circuits? • Recommended Replacement Trailer Lights With Side Lights For Small Utility Trailer
We have just what you are looking for. I recommend the LED Submersible Trailer Stop, Turn and Tail Light, part # STL8RB. This is for the right side of the trailer and is a stud mounted LED light. It has the side marker light that illuminates when the running lights are powered. For the left side of the trailer you will want part # STL9RB. I have attached a product review video and have also attached a drawing that shows the dimension for these lights you can take a look at.

  • Troubleshooting LED Trailer Lights on 5 x 8 Foot Tilt Trailer
If you used the Trailer Tail Light - 6-Function - LED - Submersible - 11 Diodes - Red Lens - Passenger # STL8RB then I recommend running a jump wire from the frame ground at the light to the mounting hardware on the unit. It sounds like the ground is not making a full contact, so the 12V battery is giving enough power to overcome the ground issue. I've attached a video of this particular light and the ground wire connection to the mounting hardware. The other possible issue is that...

  • Both Trailer Turn Signals Flash When Tow Vehicle Headlights are On
What you describe is a classic symptom of a poor ground connection. Everything works okay until you turn on the vehicle's headlights or running lights, then things get interesting. When the headlights are on, the wiring for the lighting on the trailer is under full load which is when a problem will show itself. The trailer connector ground should be securely attached to the trailer tongue, to clean bare metal. Remove the ground screw or bolt and sand down a dime-sized area around the hole...

  • Not Getting Turn Signal Function When Using LED Bulbs On A Trailer
LED bulbs have little resistance on their own, so when used with turn signals they can create a hyper flash situation, which is a fast flashing of the bulb. To determine if you will need a load-resistor kit like a LED Light Bulb Load-Resistor Kit # DI34ZR, you will install the bulbs and when the turn signals are activated, if the bulbs hyper flash you will need to install the load-resistor kit. This kit will prevent the turn signals from hyper flashing. You will need one kit for each LED...

  • What Would Cause Trailer Wiring To Flash or Blink When Hitting Bumps in Road
Your trailer lighting is flickering because the wiring of the trailer is grounding through the hitch ball and coupler and not through the ground wire circuit. When you hit a bump the ball intermittently stops making contact with the coupler which stops the lights from working. What you can do try improving the ground wire that comes from the main harness of the trailer to the frame and you should see it start working normally.

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Wiring That Activates The Hazards When Using The Right Turn Signal
Hey Justin, When you say it's triggering the hazards what exactly do you mean? Is it flashing the smaller clearance lights on the trailer? Is it just on the right side or the whole trailer? Most likely the converter box for the trailer wiring harness on your Highlander is malfunctioning and sending the wrong signal back to the trailer. You can't do much to fix this unfortunately besides replacement if this is the case. If you have the factory towing package you can swap out the wiring...

  • Replacement Waterproof Tail Lights For a Malone Boat Trailer
I recommend switching to the Optronics Drivers Side # STL9RB and Passenger Side # STL8RB tail lights. These lights are LED with multiple diodes and have a sealed waterproof construction. • Can Trailer be Swapped to LED Taillights Without Issues
All you have to do is swap the incandescent bulbs with LED replacement assemblies. Your tow vehicle would not have a problem at all with this switch. In fact, it actually would thank you if it could since now the trailer wiring will draw a fraction of the amperage it once did. So an LED taillight kit like the part # TLL9RK would come with everything you'd need. New assemblies, wiring and connectors.

  • Troubleshooting Dim Trailer Lights and Running Lights and Turn Signals Blinking Together
This sounds like a ground problem. If it only happens when the running lights are on it indicates a ground issue. Ground problems normally show up when the system is being subjected to a maximum load. First, make sure the main ground from the trailer plug is attached to a clean and corrosion free bare metal surface. Next, go back to the lights. Most trailer lights ground through the mounting studs if there is not an obvious ground wire. In either case, the grounds have to be attached to...

This should be installed on the trailer in a way that keeps it protected from the elements. You will need to use the wires from your trailer wiring harness and attach them in the following manner.
