Question:
Hi- Trying to find easy to detach, sturdy, and not super expensive 2+bike carrier for my boyfriends X3. Preferably one that attaches to the trailer hitch, but I dont know what kind of hitch these cars have. Help?? His birthday is next week and I really want to get this ordered by tomorrow! Thank you!

Based on the trailer hitches we have available that are custom fit for the 2016 BMW X3, the installed hitch is most likely a Class III with a 2 inch hitch opening. I do still recommend verifying this information. There should be a sticker somewhere on the hitch that lists its class and weight capacity. Hitch-mounted bike racks are class and hitch opening specific, so you will want to make sure that the bike rack you choose will be compatible with the trailer hitch on the X3.
For a hitch-mounted bike rack, I recommend the Swagman Chinook 2 Bike Platform Rack # S64683. This particular bike rack can hold up to 2 bikes at 45 pounds each and is compatible with trailer hitches with either a 1-1/4 inch or 2 inch receiver opening. This is a really nice platform-style rack that will make loading and unloading your bikes easier than a hanging style rack. The ratcheting, padded hooks hold your bikes firmly by the top tubes and will also protect your bike frames from scratches. My favorite feature of this rack is its ability to tilt away from the vehicle with the bikes still loaded for easy rear cargo access. The rack also includes built-in locks to secure both the bikes to the rack and the rack to the trailer hitch.
I have attached a video demonstration of this bike rack for you to check out.
