Is it Normal for Spacers to Bend When Bolt Are Tightened to Specs for a Trailer Hitch Receiver

Question:
I installed a BandW BWHDRH25217 on my 07 nbs silverodo. The forward holes in the frame used for mounting are about the size of a silver dollar so there are larger spacers included for those locations. When the bolt is tightened to the specified 80lbs/sq in, the spacer is squeezed into the hole and curls up. I would send a picture but there is no provision here. Also, the spacers, with the off set hole, that go on the under side covering the oblong hole in the hitch, began to go out of shape as well. These werent as bad but it seems to me they should have been specific so they could have covered the oblong hole completely and all these spacers should have been of a hardened steel like the grade 8 bolts included. The split washers arent even grade 8 and one opened up but an extra happened to be included. Is this bending normal or do I have to make my own high strength spacers to feel confident in this hitch? Nice ruged looking hitch, I must say.

My contact at B&W Trailer Hitches said that it is normal for the spacers to bend on hitches once they are tightened down to specifications. What you are seeing on your 2007 Chevrolet Silverado New Body when you installed the Class V B&W Heavy-Duty Trailer Hitch Receiver # BWHDRH25217 is normal so you won't need to worry about manufacturing your own spacers.
