Recommended Trailer Hitch And Wiring For 2012 Lexus GX 460

Question:
Looking at buying a 2012 Lexus GS 460. It looks like it has a trailer prep package? It has the wiring and half of the hitch structure. What do I need to make it tow ready? Should i try to find one with these components already installed?

If you are talking about a GX 460, they all came with the wiring and it sounds like you have the hitch already installed on the vehicle. If it is a GS 460, we do not offer any components for towing with that vehicle.
I am not sure how one half of a hitch would be installed on a 2012 GX 460. The trailer hitches we offer that are designed to fit the vehicle are one piece components that includes the receiver. The design of the trailer hitch for the Lexus is a much smaller hitch than what you normally see on other vehicles, but it is still a tested and tried trailer hitch. You can check out part # 75685 and see how it is designed differently from trailer hitches for many other vehicles. I believe you have the tow package installed and it has the wiring and hitch needed to tow a trailer.
If the vehicle has a tow package it should have a 7-way trailer connector at the rear of the vehicle. If not, the connection points are located beneath the vehicle near the frame rail on the driver's side. Part # HM11141920 is a confirmed fit for the vehicle and it has a 7-way and 4-way connector.
The brake controller I recommend for the GX 460 is the Prodigy P3, part # 90195.
If you plan on doing some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag.
If the ball mount kit does not include a ball mount with the right rise or drop to tow the trailer level, check out the link I have included that explains how to measure to choose a ball mount to tow the trailer level.
