Can Integrated Brake Controller of 2017 Toyota Tundra Be Replaced with P3

Updated 05/25/2020 | Published 11/22/2016

Question:

I am looking to buy a 2017 Toyota Tundra. They come standard with a brake controller but from all I have read, it is not sufficient. Actually terrible. Can you unhook it and replace it with a Tekosna pendulum type such as the J3? Thanks for info and suggestions.

Yes you can replace the factory brake controller of your 2017 Toyota Tundra with the Prodigy P3 part # 90195. You would just need the correct install harness part # 3031-P to plug the P3 in place of the factory controller.

Does the p3 require you to get 2017 reflashed

I don't believe your Tundra will need to be flashed when installing an aftermarket controller like the Prodigy P3 # 90195. The need for this (across all truck models) is kind of hit and miss, so you may want to check with a local Toyota dealer just to be sure.

@TimothyB The P3 wires just the same as your Primus IQ - so if the truck isn't recognizing the controller you'll unfortunately have the same problem with the Prodigy P3. I would check with your local Toyota dealer to see if it does indeed need to be flashed.
