Installing The Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller # 90885 On A 2010 GMC Sierra 1500

Question:

Installed your 90885 in 2010 GMC Sierra 1500. Per instructions, I located pigtail harness and connected to plug. Display is blank. Does the unit need to be physically grounded? Are there fuses needed in the breaker panel? Anything to be done under the hood?

The Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller # 90885 will come with a universal plug-in pigtail wiring harness that will be hardwired to your brake controller wiring harness under the dash on your 2010 GMC Sierra 1500. The white wire on the brake controller is the ground wire and that wire should be wired to the white wire on your wiring harness under the dash.

The remaining 3 wires from under the dash are red/black, dark blue, and light blue/white. They should be wired as, red/black wire, connects to the black wire on the brake controller. Dark blue wire, connects to the dark blue wire on the brake controller. Light blue/white wire, connects to red wire on the brake controller.

There are two connections that will need to be made under the hood. Remove the cover on the fuse block and locate the wire for the power feed to the brake controller. It should be located between the fuse block and the fender of your vehicle. This wire will be connected to the left side power post located in front of the fuse block using a M8 hex flange nut. The next wire is the power wire for the trailer connector at the rear of your vehicle. This wire is located on the engine side of the fuse block and will be connected to the right side power post in front of the fuse block with a M6 hex flange nut.

You will now need to make sure that there are fuses installed for the power posts that the wires are connected to. The power post for the brake controller will require a 30 amp fuse and the power post for the wire going back to the trailer connector will need a 40 amp fuse. That will complete your brake controller installation.

I am sending a video link to a brake controller installation on a 2009 Chevy Silverado. This will show where all the connections are made that I have mentioned.

This explanation got me from SH to NC without having to call tech support. Very detailed and extremely well written. If only more support issues on the internet were answered like this. For tracking purposes I googled tekonsha brake gmc 2011 and this link was one of the first to display. I chise it based on prior knowledge of the etrailer site.
