Question:

for towing mirrors do I measure the mirror or the outside casing I need a towing mirror foe a 2000 Durango r/t they are not the 5 by 7 sport mirrors and instead of being 6 by 9 they are 8 3/4 by 6 3/4 thanks

We can offer you a few options in towing mirrors for your 2000 Dodge Dakota R/T.

From CIPA, we offer their slip-on towing mirrors # CM10500 that fit powered and heated mirrors that look like the one shown in the linked photo. If you mirrors look different please send us a photo.

Do please note that if your mirrors have additional lighting features that are not flush to the mirror, such as LED turn signals, automatic dimming, and puddle lights, then these CIPA mirrors will fit, but you will lose those functions while the towing mirrors are in place.

You also have the option of using universal-fit towing mirrors like # 7070 that fit on almost any mirror that has a small gap between the mirror surface and the mirror housing where the mirror attachment clips will fit. You do not need to measure anything, just confirm that there is a gap.

Or, you can completely avoid any concerns about compatibility with your OEM mirrors by using two door-mount towing mirrors # 11650. This mirror offers a large 5 x 7 mirror surface and it extends out about 17-inches for excellent rearview visibility. This fits doors without plastic body molding at the bottom of the door.
