Hitch Recommendation for a 1991 Chevy C1500 Truck
Updated 09/19/2016 | Published 09/17/2016 >
Question:
What kind of hitch will I need to install on my 1991 Chevy Silverado pick up. It is a 1500 V6 5 speed to pull a 17-19 foot camper. Also, if my truck gvwr is 5900 lbs, how heavy of a trailer can I pull? Ive read it can pull a 4000 lb trailer but I want to make sure.

For a trailer hitch confirmed as a fit for your 1991 Chevy C1500 the Curt hitch part # C14081 is a confirmed fit. It would have more than enough capacity for your trailer as well.
The gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR), or gross vehicle mass (GVM) is the maximum operating weight/mass of a vehicle as specified by the manufacturer including the vehicle's chassis, body, engine, engine fluids, fuel, accessories, driver, passengers and cargo but excluding that of any trailers.
Because of that it does not determine the towing capacity. You woudl need to find the GCWR which is the figure that includes the weight of a trailer.
