Question:

I have a new 2016 Volvo XC90 and trying to get a hitch for a bike rack. This appears to be the one. Looking over the installation instructions, it seems like it might be more than I might be able to do. I see a few things listed in the instructions that arent part of the tool list needed - die grinder etc. Wondering if it is really complicated or not.

A lot of the installation of Curt trailer hitch # C13233 on your 2016 Volvo XC90 revolves around getting the fascia out of the way to install the hitch. It isn't difficult just time-consuming. There is drilling that is needed, the instructions show the installer using a die grinder, but this is because a hole needs to be enlarged to 1 inch in order to get the hardware into the frame.

With this hitch Curt also says that all non-trailer loads - bike racks, cargo carriers and so forth - should be supported with a stabilizing strap # 18050. Failure to properly support these loads will void your hitch warranty from Curt.

If it were me, I would go with Curt hitch # C53HR. It does not have the strap requirement and only the receiver will be visible once the hitch is installed. I have linked its instructions as well.
