Parts Needed to Install 7-Way Wiring Harness on 2015 Toyota RAV4

Updated 07/22/2020 | Published 07/18/2016

Question:

I need to add a Class 3 hitch to our 2015 RAV4. I am looking at the etrailer model. What do I need to purchase as far as the wiring is concerned to complete the job? We will be pulling a pop-up camper that has a 7 prong plug the pop-up has a battery system on it. Thanks!

The etrailer hitch part # e98864 that you are interested in for your 2015 Toyota RAV4 is a great choice for a trailer hitch. I attached an install video for it as well.

For wiring you would need the part # 118578 to give you a 4-way and then would need the part # 37185 to convert it to a 7-way. From there you would need to run a 10 gauge wire like part # 10-1-1 up to the positive post of the battery through a circuit breaker like part # 9510.

Since you wanted to do some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag.

If the ball mount kit does not include a ball mount with the right rise or drop to tow the trailer level, check out the link I have included that explains how to measure to choose a ball mount to tow the trailer level.

I am going to use this article and do the same for my 2015 RAV4. The question I have is with this solution, am I running two 10ga wires to the battery? I am going with the Curt Echo for a brake controller. THANKS!

Great! For the Echo you'll just need to run that single black power wire up to the battery and connect it to the positive terminal via the breaker. No other wires from the adapter need to be run (other than the white wire which you will ground to some nearby bare metal, the rest can be capped off).
