Solution for Installing Trailer Wiring on a Vehicle with Separate Turn Signals from Brake Lights
Updated 05/12/2016 | Published 05/10/2016 >
Question:
I have a 1995 isuzu trooper. The previous own wired in a trailer brake control and a 7 way connector. None of the lights and or brake controller were wired in correctly, I rewired the brake controller and the 7 way connector so now I have trailer brake power signal, right turn, left turn, 12v, ground, tail lights and NO brake lights. I traced the brake light power signal wire but if I connect it to either left or right turn light and apply the brakes, then turn signals on the trooper light up with the brake lights. Im lost on where or how to connect the brake light wire, or am I missing a relay or something?

Sounds like your Trooper has separate turn signals from the brake lights and what you are trying to do is wire up a trailer connector that is designed for combined circuits. This is a fairly common problem and the solution is to wire in a signal converter like part # RM-732.
You will wire your separate turn signals to the input side of the box and then on the output side the signals will match what your trailer needs.
