Bolt Used on Dexter E-Z Flex Equalizer System Sheared Off and Damaged Trailer Tire

Question:
I recently had a breakdown on I-80 where I had a bolt that sheared at the nut un one of the shackles on the E-Z flex system on my trailer. The sheared bolt backed out and shredded a tire. I was able to get the shackles all replaced did not replace the bushings. I am considering replacing the E-Z Flex devices just to make sure that the suspension system is whole again. Can I reuse the shackle bolts and shackles or do I need to replace them again? Also, since the shackles were not of the wet variety, should I replace them with wet bolts and new bushings at the same time?

If you had originally put on just the equalizers # K71-654-00 and not the kit # K71-652-00 then that could be part of the problem you had. The E-Z Flex systems use special shackle straps and wet bolts. Considering the damage that was done it is possible that there is unseen damage to the system or that the same thing could happen on the other side. I recommend replacing the whole thing with a new kit. That way you will get all the parts you need and they will be all new parts so you're not mixing old and new parts.
