Hello, I have a 93 Chevy Silverado pick up. I am installing brake controller for my horse trailer. These are the parts I am purchasing: c55315 curt t-connector 37185 adapter 4 to 7 and 4 pole 39510 Tekonsha voyager contoller First of all am I on the right track? Second, if I am......where to I connect wire from 7 pole adaptor for the controller out put? Thanks-ps I am waiting to be sure I understand the procedure before I make the purchase. You're certainly on the right track, with a small exception or two.
Instead of getting the # 37185, I'd get the # ETBC7 Brake Controller Install Kit. The kit includes the # 37185, plus all the hardware, wire and circuit breakers you'll need to complete the install.
As for your brake controller choice, the # 39510 Voyager brake controller would be a good choice if you're very familiar with using and troubleshooting brake controllers. The Voyager doesn't use a digital display, and it's not self-leveling, so the initial set-up and troubleshooting if something isn't functioning properly can be a real challenge. If you're less familiar with brake controllers, I'd encourage you go with something that's a bit more user-friendly like the Tekonsha Primus, part # TK90160. The Primus is self leveling, which means steep grades won't affect the operation of the controller. The controller also features a full digital display that will keep you informed of the brake controller status and will display error codes if there's ever a problem.
The # C55315 taillight converter harness would work fine.
I'll link you to the installation instructions for the # ETBC7 kit. The 37185 adapter included in the kit would plug into the 4-pole once its installed. The white wire would ground to the trailer frame, and the black and blue wires would be extended toward the front of the vehicle using the duplex cable included in the kit. The blue wire carries the bracket controller output, and would run under the vehicle to the engine compartment where it would pass through the firewall. At that point, that wire would connect to the blue wire on the brake controller. The black wire on the 37185 would run to the positive battery terminal, through a 40 amp circuit breaker installed in the engine bay close to the battery. The breaker is included with the # ETBC7 kit. The purple wire from the 37185 is usually tapped into the reverse light circuit on the vehicle. if its not needed, you can bundle the wire up out of the way.
I'll link you to an install video that will walk you through the complete installation. The video shows a different controller being installed, but the procedure for your truck would be identical.
