Brake Controller Installation on 2015 Chevy Traverse Using OEM Brake Controller Pigtail

Question:
I just purchased a new Chevy Traverse as a tow vehicle. It has the factory trailering equipment. I need a brake controller. I prefer a proportional controller, probably a prodigy IQ. I have the Chevy plug and pig-tail assembly that came as part of the trailering equipment. Is there a socket for this to simply plug in somewhere under the dash? emergency brake? Having answered that, it appears that this harness will leave me with a gray illumination wire thats not matched to anything on the controllers Im seeing. Is it simply not used? Thanks

The factory brake controller pigtail would indeed plug in to the connector located under the dash, near the emergency brake pedal. I've shown you a photo of where the plug is located.
The factory pigtail would wire up to the pigtail included with the brake controller, the pigtail should be labeled to indicate which wire serves which function.
The blue brake controller pigtail carries the output voltage from the controller to the trailer brakes. The black wire is the power supply to the vehicle, the white wire is the ground and the red wire connects to the brake lamps of the vehicle to alert the controller than the brakes are installed.
The gray wire for the illumination circuit is NOT used. You can just bundle that wire up out of the way.
