Helpful Expert Reply:
Using a hitch extender in the hitch on your 2012 GMC 2500 reduces the towing capacity by 50 percent.
Unless you have a hitch installed that has a towing capacity of 20,000 lbs or more like the TorkLift Trailer Hitch, part # TLC1208-30 and an extension like part # TLE1524 or part # TLE1536 along with a weight distribution system on your truck I cannot recommend using an extension of any kind.
