Question:
Hi there, you may get a chuckle, but I have a serious question about towing behind my RV. I have a restored 1964 VW Beetle and I want to tow it behind my Mercedes Sprinter/Winnebago RV. I realize connecting a tow bar will likely require some custom work but wanted to get your recommendations as to the best equipment for my needs. Please keep in mind that I am a woman and I often travel solo. I am fairly strong but need lighter weight equipment so I can make relatively easy use of it. I have a local shop that can do the work, but I need to provide the equipment to get the work started. I would appreciate your advice!

Since we don't have a custom set of base plates for your 1964 VW Beetle you would have to go with a universal base plate kit like part # BX88230. Most bumpers will need to be reinforced or modified. Brackets must mount to a flat, metal surface.
The most popular tow bar we offer that would work great with this base plate kit is the Blue Ox Alpha part # BX7380. This tow bar has telescoping arms that will make connection and disconnection possible on unlevel terrain. These are much easier to use than the fixed arms tow bars. This comes with safety cables as well.
For lighting a universal magnetic kit like the part # TL21RK would work great.
And finally, most states now require supplemental braking in the vehicle being flat towed. The easiest system to set up and use is the Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR, that applies the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the two vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.
I have included a couple of helpful links to our articles on flat towing for you. Be sure to consult the vehicle owners manual for more specific information on flat towing your vehicle.
