What Happens if I Change the Size of Equalizers on 5th Wheel Camping Trailer
Updated 04/20/2015 | Published 04/18/2015 >
Question:
What difference it makes when you change the size of the equalizer taller and longer along with the proper hangers, what determine the size of them on a suspension design? With taller and longer equalizer do you change the hangers spacing setup? Do you use the same size shackles?? Thanks

When changing the size of the equalizer that is on a trailer, this will affect the size of hangers needed or the spacing of the hangers. For example, if you were to go with an equalizer that is one inch taller, you could keep the center hanger the same but would need one inch longer end hangers.
If you replace your current equalizer with one that is longer, you would have two options. One would be to find shorter springs but the easier option would be to move the spring hangers further apart. In either case, the same size shackles can be used.
As for what determines the size of equalizer that is used on a trailer, it will be the size that allows for appropriate axle spacing. I have attached the formula for determining correct axle position for you as well.
I strongly recommend that you mock-up your setup before welding anything into place. Please keep in mind that any measurements that are provided for placement should be used as a guide only.
