Question:
Towing an Aluma 8218 car hauler with a 2015 Colorado. Trailer is rated at 7,000#. Truck is rated at 7,000# towing. However the truck can handle up to 900# tongue weight. I was going to use a Curt kit 17322. The sway control 17200 does not work with this trailer. Now looking at Blue Ox. Looks pretty fool proof and simple. Is it OK to go bigger on the hitch assy? Looking at a BXW-1000 with the 19286 ball. combined trailer and car weight would be about 4,500# Thanks!

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use. You don't want to pick out the system based on the max capacity for the tow vehicle as you would end up with a system rated to high that would cause a very harsh ride.
Most likely your tongue weight will be between 450 and 675 lbs so for a Blue Ox kit rated for that you would want the # BXW0750. The # 19286 would work as a hitch ball though.
