Question:
What brake assembly would you recommend for use with this galvanized drum for a boat trailer occasionally used in salt water? Does the brake assembly resist salt water corrosion as well as the galvanized drum? Thanks

Expert Reply:
Since your boat and trailer will be used in salt water a galvanized hub/drum is a good idea to give you some corrosion protection. With this hub you can use Demco Galvanized Free Backing Hydraulic Drum Brake Assembly # 40716 (left) and # 40715 (right). These are suitable for a 3500-lb axle and a 4-on-4-inch brake flange mounting pattern. I have linked an installation video for your reference.
Even when using galvanized components, it is a good idea to rinse the trailer with fresh water after each salt water boating trip. This will extend the life of both hubs and brakes.
Mounting hardware is sold separately: you can use nut # 6-17, lockwasher # 5-8 and bolt # 7-75.
