How to Choose Ball Mount for 20 Inch Hitch Height and 14 Inch Trailer Height

Question:
I bought a tow hitch from you. It's great. I need the measurement for a ball mount. To top of hitch is 20 inches, the top of the trailer coupler inside is 14 inches. Thats a 6 inch drop , right? Can I live with a 4 or 5 inch ball mount . Thanks much, I appreciate your response.

To determine rise or drop ball mount you'd need, you'll need to make a simple calculation. Measure the distance from the inside top edge of the receiver tube down to the ground, it sounds like you've already done that and came up with 20 inches. Then measure the distance from the BOTTOM of the coupler to the ground when the trailer is level. If the hitch is taller than the coupler, you'll need a ball mount with a drop. If the trailer coupler is taller, you'll need a ball mount with a rise.
If the trailer's tongue weight is more than a couple of hundred lbs, I'd recommend adding an inch of drop to account for the vehicle's rear suspension squat.
It's possible you won't find a ball mount that has the exact rise or drop you need but as long as you're within 1-2 inches of level you'll be fine. It's preferable to have the coupler 1-2 inches below level than above.
