How to Wire the Engager Breakaway Kit to Charge the Breakaway Battery
Updated 05/19/2020 | Published 03/11/2010 >
Question:
On the BA10-150 Engager breakaway system, where does the black wire hook up. The battery will not stay charged without hooking to battery charger. The black wire inside the system is taped off, not hooked up. Can this wire be connected to #4 black terminal on the seven pin vehicle plug? If not can it be wired to charge from the vehicle.

The black wire on the Engager breakaway system # 20099 will be connected to a 12v auxiliary power wire coming off of the trailer connector. This wire is typically the number 4 black terminal in the 7-way connector, but you will need to test to determine if your plug is wired this way, as the auxiliary function can also be located on the center pin.
Installing the black wire from the breakaway system to the 12 volt power source will allow the battery to charge when you have the trailer connected to the vehicle and the vehicle is running.
We have a video installation of a brake away kit being installed for you to review that may be of some help, see link.
