Question:

I would like to extend the tongue on my travel trailer to make room for a cross rail to mount a small motorcycle ahead of camper body. It would be extended about 24inch with straight 3x3 or 3x4inch tubing ahead of the V where the original coupler is. I also plan on reinforcing the frame work done by professional welding shop The trailer GVW is about 3000# and weighs about 2000 ready to tow. My tow vehicle is 2012 Nissan Xterra with 5000# tow rating. I calculate 500# tongue weight max 220 now It tows fine now without equalizer. Would the equalizer work properly being connected to the central straight hitch tube?

There is a way to use a weight distribution system like the part # BLUE45FR with a straight or pole tongue trailer like what you have. All you need is a pole tongue adapter like part # RP3280 for if your setup will have a tongue weight of lower than 750 lbs or part # RP58393 for if you will have a tongue weight of up to 1,400 lbs.

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached an FAQ on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will need to consider the weight of your motorcycle when determining this as well obviously.

Since your current tongue weight is 220 lbs the # BLU45FR that you referenced should do well most likely since you said you have a small motorcycle and the # BLU45FR will accommodate up to 600 lbs of tongue weight.
