Transition Plate For 7x16 Enclosed Trailer To Roll Carts Over Ramp Door Where It Gets Hung Up

Updated 11/26/2025 | Published 11/19/2025

Question:

Will this transition plate work on my 7x16 enclosed trailer? I roll heavy tool carts in and out a few times a week and I’m tired of the small lip at the ramp catching everything.

Hey Jeff! Yes, the M-3 steel plate # M368FR is perfect for that setup. It’s about 81-3/4 inch wide, so it’ll span your ramp nicely, and the welded steel with a tread-plate texture gives great traction even if your wheels are wet or muddy. You’ll just bolt it to the bottom edge of the door and it folds down with the ramp for a smooth roll-on.

If you want something a little lighter but still sturdy, the aluminum version # M348FR does the same job at about half the weight. If you're in extreme climates where there's lots of salt or rain, I'd go with aluminum for best rust-resistance.

What kind of tool carts are you rolling in and out of the trailer every week?

Thanks Andrew, that’s exactly what I needed. The carts are Snap-On roll cabs loaded up with tools. probably 400-500 lbs each.

@Jeff Nice. Okay I'd go with the steel # M368FR then. That’ll handle that kind of weight without flexing, and the treadplate surface will grip those casters nicely. The aluminum should work fine as well, so there's no worries there really, I just like to go with the strongest material on things like this.
