How to Install a Weight Distribution System on a Straight Tongue Boat Trailer
Updated 04/07/2015 | Published 04/06/2015 >
Question:
I have a strait single tongue on my boat trailer. Its a heavy boat. Tongue is 4x4 steel box and then it Vs out 5 feet back from Surge brake ball mount. So a traditional weight distribution for a V tongue probably wont work. Do you know if it will or not ? Is there a manufacture that makes one for a strait tongue. No V from the ball . Its strait back 5 feet then Vs under the boat. Its a 21 foot Ebtide. EZ load Trailer 2 inch ball.

What you need for your boat trailer is a pole tongue adapter like part # RP58393. This product is designed to work on trailers with straight tongues just like your boat trailer. I attached a picture of what it looks like installed.
The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.
