Required in most states, safety cables act as a backup if your trailer becomes separated from your vehicle. Each coiled, nylon-coated steel cable has a corrosion-resistant S-hook with wire keeper on one end and a loop on the other.

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Curt Single Hook Coiled Safety Cables with S-hooks. Safety cables are going to help ensure safe towing. They simply provide back up protection between the tow vehicle and your trailer. Now these cables are going to feature an S-hook located at one end. On the other end it's going to have the formed loop. On the S-hook side we're going to have the wire keepers.
These are going to help prevent the S-hooks from accidentally unhooking from the safety chain loops. Then you'll notice that each cable is a really nice, coiled design. What this does is it simply eliminates slack. It's going to keep your cables from dragging on the ground. Underneath this coating is a braided steel construction that's very strong and durable.
Then that nylon coating prevents your cables from scratching anything on your towing setup. The S-hooks are made from a steel construction. They feature a zinc coating. It's going to do a great job at resisting rust and corrosion. They're going to have a weight capacity of 3,500 pounds. The overall length, if you we're to stretch this all the way out, including the hooks, is going to be about 42".
Just the cable itself is going to be around 40". We did do some precise measurements. The opening on the loop end, measuring the width right there is 0.68" wide. Outer edge to outer edge is 1.188" wide. The opening on the hook itself, right here at the opening, that gives us a gap of 11/16", and then it narrows to around 5/8" wide.
With this part number you're going to get two safety cables. That's going to do it for today's look at the Curt Single Hook Coiled Safety Cables with the S-hooks.

Sturdy cables that coil around bars/arms to stay out of the way. Works great.
Great product, customer service informed me my shipment was delayed (one of my items was out of stock - but only for a couple days). They kept me informed and sent delivery information. GREAT SERVICE !!!
Fast shipping and nicely packaged. Good overall experience.
They work great on the small trailer we are repairing.
they're good but they're too long for car/small trailer
i received my order faster than expected and was very pleased with the quality of the product also very resonable on price and shipping
Strong cables that stay coiled and out of the way until needed. What you see in the picture is how they look on the trailer .Best for smaller trailers.
extre-e-e-emly fast shipping. quality product., great communication. Thanks
Highly recommend these for ease of securing trailer to various vehicles that have different length of chains being required. Keeps the chain off the ground and taught.
Great replacement for old chains! Coiled design keeps them from dragging. And the slimmer cable reduces bulk around the front tongue. Quick and easy switch-out!
Performs as expected. I'm using the safety cables on a lightweight two motorcycle trailer.
Boat safety cables - excellent product- excellent price- fast service- pleasure dealing with etrailer!
Cables hold up great in salt water!
Was tired of old chains after seeing these on all new trailers. Awesome, simple
addition to my older trailer and great price and shipping from etrailer!
I put these on my trailer so they would reach the vehicle when I have the extra long tongue in. Seeing as they are coiled they are still fine when hooked up to my truck with a regular hitch assembly.
Good product. Works as it is supposed to.
The cables are constructed very well and seem to be very strong. The S-hook has a spring loaded clip to help keep it on the receiver and avoid slipping off. This is exactly what I needed to replace the safety chains on my trailer.
Much better than chains, especially if you tow with a low vehicle where the chains could drag. The cables always stay slightly coiled to keep them taut.
I completely rebuilt my boat trailer and used a lot of parts from e trailer
Every part was of great quality. Very good prices and fast shipping. I would
use them again for all my trailer needs.
Added an extension hitch to our F350 to be able to launch our boat in some of the shallower lakes we fish. Needed a long safety chain to be able to hook the trailer chains to the truck. These worked great. FAST shipping once again from the great people at E-trailer.
My experience with etrailer has been excellent. First, I like the website. It is easy to navigate and very informative, and descriptive. The prices are good and along with the free shipping on my order, it made it the best deal available. Shipping was fast. I've already installed the parts, they were of the quality that I had expected. My favorite part was that George remembered that I had ordered a transmission cooler about three or four years ago, making me a repeat customer.
I won't hesitate to use etrailer in the future.
I'm very disappointed in these cables. I've used them in the past and they worked great, however they're changed them. Now the manufacturer has installed a spring clip on the hooks to keep them from falling off of the tow vehicle. The problem is that they didn't increase the size of the hooks and the 'safety' clip actually pushes the hook off of the tow vehicle's hitch.
My vehicle has a pretty standard design of frame hitch, nothing odd or anything like that. The manufacturer just didn't bother to try these things out before going into production.
I've got the other ends of the cables welded to my trailer, meaning that I'll have to cut them off and weld on something else, then patch the paint on the trailer, etc. What a nuisance!
I would NOT RECOMMEND buying these cables, or at least test them on your particular hitch before permanently installing them.
A huge upgrade over chains, these are an awesome budget friendly upgrade. They don't drag the ground and you can fish your wiring through them so that doesn't drag the ground either.
They work great. They coil up out of the way when hooking up the SXS trailer.
Please see my picture. This is a little difficult to explain, but these safety cables are okay. However, if you have a trailer ball receiver with round welded steel loops for safety chains/cables the spring clips on these cable hooks might not close, span enough, and clip on. The cable shackle loop NEEDS to be a larger diameter so the safety spring loaded clip can close. I am going to use them and hopefully the shackle loop will suffice without the spring clip closing.
Do you have a question about this Safety Cable?
