Q: Curt coiled safety cables, C80136 rated for 3500 lbs. Is this rating for each individual cable or combined for the pair?

Hi Joseph, the 3,500 pound rating on part # C80136 is for each individual safety cable, not the pair. That said, the ratings are not added together, so the maximum weight of the vehicle or trailer being towed still cannot exceed 3,500 pounds. The reason is that each cable is designed to be capable of supporting the entire load on its own in the event of a disconnect. If your towed vehicle or trailer weighs more than 3,500 pounds, I'd recommend stepping up to a higher rated set of safety cables.

What vehicle or trailer are you planning to use these with? I am happy to help!

I tow a tandem axle travel trailer GVWR of 7000 lbs. and have acquired a set of 7000 lb. cables since I asked the question on etrailer on 7/27/26. Each of my two new cables is stamped with the 7000 lb. rating. I would suggest adding your clarification to the technical description of your safety cables and for that matter, the same for safety chains on the etrailer website.
