Fifth Wheel to Gooseneck Adapter

Say your truck has a gooseneck hitch for towing your horse trailer, but you want to go camping with your new fifth wheel. You could outfit your truck with a new fifth-wheel hitch that attaches to your existing gooseneck hitch, but that means having to move a heavy, bulky hitch into and out of your truck bed all the time.

You could also purchase an adapter that bolts onto your trailer's existing pin box. But adding a new component to your setup can keep your pin box from working how it was designed. King pin adapters can create a stiff ride and can even strain your fifth wheel's frame by adding too much height at the connection point.

A better option is to use this gooseneck-compatible pin box to easily tow your fifth-wheel trailer with your truck's gooseneck hitch. The box replaces your trailer's existing pin box, which means it's designed to act as a part of your trailer instead of simply bolting over your king pin like an adapter does.

Built-In Shock Absorption for a Smooth Ride

Executive torsion

If you've ever towed a fifth-wheel trailer before, you're no stranger to road shock. Driving over uneven terrain can result in a rigid, bumpy ride. And uncomfortable fore-and-aft chucking can occur when you're starting and stopping. When all of the motions combine, the road shock can even potentially damage your truck or trailer.

This Gen-Y Hitch torsion pin box is designed to absorb road shock at the connection point to create a safe, smooth ride. This is thanks to the internal construction of the box, which is similar to that of a torsion axle.

Pivot points are built into the Gen-Y pin box adapter. This allows for movement between the box, which attaches to your trailer, and the coupler tube, which connects to the gooseneck hitch ball in your truck bed. When your trailer bounces or jerks, the coupler tube will move accordingly.

torsion diagram

Built into the Gen-Y pin box are tubes with inner bars that are surrounded by rubber cords. As the coupler end moves, these inner bars twist inside of the tubes, attempting to follow the coupler's motion. But the rubber cords prevent the bars from twisting too far. And as each bar turns, these cords compress to absorb the rough shock. This means that any shock experienced by your truck can be absorbed before it reaches your trailer, and the shock experienced by your trailer won't get transferred to your truck.

Easy to Couple and Uncouple

auto latch and cable

The Gen-Y pin box adapter makes hooking up your trailer easy thanks to its automatic latch. When your hitch ball moves into the coupler tube, the latch instantly engages. No need to manually close the socket once the coupler is on the ball.

Disconnecting is fast and easy too. This normally requires that you crawl into your truck bed to access and release the latch. But the Gen-Y adapter box can be disconnected from outside of your truck bed. The included cable attaches to the latch on the coupler's base. Just run the cable up your trailer frame and secure it in a convenient place. When you're ready to disengage the coupler, simply pull the cable to release the ball from the socket. No need to climb into your truck bed.

  • How Much Does The MORryde Cushioned 5th Wheel Pin Box MR84VR Weigh?
The MORryde Cushioned 5th Wheel Pin Box # MR84VR weighs right at 190 pounds. Due to this, it will ship freight. Just in case you needed, this is designed to fit 14,000 to 18,000 pound trailers with the Lippert 1621 and 1621HD pin boxes.

  • 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Adapter for 2007 Dutchmen RV Colorado 32QB
The Gen-Y Hitch 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box like the # GY98GR you looked at is a great option for converting your 5th wheel to a gooseneck. However, unless you have a tapered nose you won't be able to make those 90 degree turns. If you still want to go this route the correct pin box is determined by using the formula GVWR x .22 = TW. Since your GVWR is 12,192 lbs that comes out to 2,682 lbs so you need a 4,500 lb tongue weight model. You can choose from the following based on the pin...

  • Does Gen-Y Fifth Wheel to Gooseneck Adapter Void Lippert Frame Warranty
Hey Scott, so Gen-Y was just here not long ago and they more or less told us that the Lippert warranty frame approval was coming when using their fifth wheel adapters like the part # GY33GR that you referenced. So right this second it may not be official but hopefully here pretty soon. For what it's worth we haven't had any frame issues with the Gen-Y adapter or the Goose Box.

  • Correct Gen-Y Hitch 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box for 2024 Brinkley Z2900
Thanks for providing that information it really makes this simple. To find the right Gen-Y we need to calculate your tongue weight using the formula GVWR x 0.22 = TW. The Z2900 has a GVWR of 14,495 lbs so the TW is 3,189 lbs. Based on this calculation you need the Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box - Lippert Rhino - 24K GTW - 4.5K TW # GY33GR.

Hey Pierre, since we know that your 2024 Brinkley Z3610 has a Rhino pin box the correct Gen-Y fifth wheel to gooseneck adapter would be the # GY33GR. Do you prefer not having to deal with a heavy fifth wheel hitch?

  • Which Gen-Y Cushioned Gooseneck Adapter Fits 2025 XLR Boost Toy Hauler
Hey Greg, so I was able to narrow down that your 2025 XLR Boost has either a Lippert 1621 or a Lippert Rhino pin box which means the easiest solution would be the Reese Goose Box part # RP85FR which fits both styles and is arguably better because it doesn't void the hitch frame warranty like the Gen-Y technically does. If you are dead set on the Gen-Y though you would need the part # GY33GR if you have the Rhino or the part # GY38FR if you have the 1621. To determine which you have I...

  • Can I Use a Convert-A-Ball Gooseneck Adapter on a Curt Helux Shock-Absorbing 5th Wheel Pin Box?
Hey Crystal, that's going to be a no. Curt has said their Helux Shock-Absorbing 5th Wheel Pin Box like item # C83RJ is not compatible with gooseneck adapters like the Convert-A-Ball item # CAB-C5G. Their reason being it puts additional stress on the 5th wheel trailer's frame and using an adapter will void the frame warranty. I know this is probably inconvenient but if you're swapping over to a Gen-Y gooseneck adapter like item # GY33GR the best way is to do it at the location you pick...

Hi Daniel; thank you for the pictures. The Reese 94622 you have there is capable of fitting a variety of bolt patterns but unfortunately, it was not designed to replace a Lippert Rhino. It was eventually replaced with the # RP85FR which does have the ability to fit the Rhino Box bolt pattern. The only option would be to sell your old Goose Box and upgrade to the new one so it fits. • Is There a Gooseneck Pin Box That Fits a Rhino Box and Has a 21,000 lbs Capacity?
Hey Tony, congrats on the new 5th wheel trailer. That is correct when you use the Reese Goose Box 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Air Ride Coupler Adapter item # RP59KR on a Rhino Box it does reduce the capacity to 20,000 lbs. The only other Reese option is item # RP85FR which is also limited to 20,000 lbs.
