Can I Use a Convert-A-Ball Gooseneck Adapter on a Curt Helux Shock-Absorbing 5th Wheel Pin Box?

Question:

Can I use a 5th wheel gooseneck adapter with the CURT Helux™ King Pin w/ Coil Spring and Shock-Absorber Brinkley for a short term? Plan to get the Gen Y at our permanent location just need to get it there.

Hey Crystal, that's going to be a no. Curt has said their Helux Shock-Absorbing 5th Wheel Pin Box like item # C83RJ is not compatible with gooseneck adapters like the Convert-A-Ball item # CAB-C5G. Their reason being it puts additional stress on the 5th wheel trailer's frame and using an adapter will void the frame warranty.

I know this is probably inconvenient but if you're swapping over to a Gen-Y gooseneck adapter like item # GY33GR the best way is to do it at the location you pick your trailer up at.

What model Brinkley are you getting?

Hey Crystal, what ended up happening with your Brinkley and the Helux pin box setup? Knowing how you handled the move before switching to the Gen-Y could help others in the same situation.

@JerredH sorry for the delayed response. We got a Brinkley Z3610 (2026) and left the Helux Pin Box. We do plan to swap it out ourselves but we are a military family who purchased 1 month prior to really using or doing anything with it. Currently it is parked in OR (around the time of the initial post). We will be driving it down to our new duty station (and living full time) soon as we fly out to OR the beginning of November. We did get the B&W ball safety chains but won’t be able to use it until we switch to the Gen Y.

@CrystalG Congrats on the new trailer. Do you know what pin box bolt pattern your new trailer has? If you have that information I can find you that right Gen-Y gooseneck adapter. If you don't all I would need you to do is get me a picture of the sticker on the pin box that has the LCI and RPO numbers on it. Not sure if your Brinkley is at a dealership that could get you a picture of it.
