Video Transcript for Fat Bike Straps for Thule EasyFold XT Bike Rack Spec Review

Hey, everybody, welcome to etrailer.com. Today we're gonna be taking a look at the Fat Bike Tire Adapter Strap for your Thule EasyFold XT. So this is a nice little way of giving yourself a way longer strap. If we take a look at the factory straps that come in place here, you can see quite a noticeable difference. Now, this strap is gonna allow you to keep up to four and 11/16 inch width tires on your EasyFold. So if you do have a bigger tire set out there, this is gonna be a great way of giving you an extra strap.

It can be just a decent little replacement strap as well. Maybe not necessary though, if you don't find yourself with those bigger tires. It is gonna add a little extra strappage to you and that can add the little cosmetic issues but if you're not too worried about it, could still be just a decent little strap. Extra length can always go a long way. If we take a look here on the inside, we just have some set screws that we're gonna need to mess with.

We are gonna need to find ourselves an M5 hex wrench here today. Now, if you don't one at home, hopefully you do, but if not, you can purchase this here at etrailer.com, as well. What's gonna be nice, you can utilize this wrench on a lot of different attachment points here on the EasyFold. But again, a little hex wrench set at home can go a long way. But all we have to do, simply insert this and now I need to back off my set screw here and it can be a little difficult to get to, you don't have too much room to work with.

So you are gonna have to start over and over again. But once we get it out, we can start getting our new one in. And just like that, our older strap has been removed. Now, luckily for us, we could, begin to reuse this hardware that's in place. However we don't really need to.

It does come with the included hardware as well. For today's purposes, I'm just gonna be reusing my old hardware here, just to save the environment just a little bit. But then we simply take our strap. We want to make sure that our ridges are facing out. And, another thing to keep in mind, for our XT model, all we have to worry about is having that little washer on there. If you are on an older EasyFold, you may need to utilize the included spacers here as well. So do keep that in mind, if you're on the XT, you may need this little guy here. But we simply take our strap now, again, have those ridges plant up and out of the way and begin to set in our screw. With our washer in place, we now need just tighten this up, once again utilizing that hex wrench. And you don't have a ton of room to work here, so I think the biggest thing we can learn, patience is a virtue. We just gotta tighten this down and that way it will be nicely installed. Well, we need to tighten it down to our manufacturer's specifications and really what we're looking for here, we need to be nice and snug, so that way it's not gonna be walking itself out. Now, the one thing I will say, I found that no matter how tight I get it, I still wanna leave it just enough to where I can move this like I used to be able to but when I bring back left, sometimes it does end up taking that bolt with it. So to that end, if you find yourself moving your fat bike adapter down here a lot and trying to pull on a little bit, just watch that screw 'cause eventually, we might just walk it out enough. But as it stands, it is solid in there. I love that it's holding on and now we have a ton of room here with our extra strap, as you can see. That's gonna be excellent. Now we can get our fat bikes on here with no trouble at all. Once again though, I was just gonna check that screw now, making sure that it's not gonna be walking itself out, over use. But again, I think once we really do a good job, ascension it and getting used to it, we should have no trouble with it working well. Well, of course the only thing left to do now is replicate our actions on the other side. That way we have a good time that they actually holding on to our fat bike tires. Other than that though, I think that about does it for our look here today at our Fat Bike Adapter Strap here for your Thule EasyFold bike carriers. Once again, I'm Bobby. Thanks for joining us here at etrailer.com. Have a good one..

We have been using the fat bike straps for over a year on our Thule Rack and have not had any issues with them. We carry a Rad Rover 6+ and and Rad Mini on the rack.

The straps are still working great! No issues!

by:

The straps were exactly what I need to tie down the bigger e bike tire on the Thule fold bike rack.

by:

The install on a Hollywood E-destination rack was more straight forward than on the Thule video - perfect match - just the added length. All thumps up.

by:

The bike rack has worked great for our two e-bikes. Have taken it off road through bumpy areas as well as got side swiped on the interstate at 75 mph, and it has held the bikes perfectly!

by:

High quality, easy to use, bikes are very safely held with locking security, easy to fold and store away.
Just remember to buy the extra longer straps if you have a fat tire bike. I would have liked to had it included since the rack is pricey. However, Thule makes a dependable, wee-designed product so we didn't mind as much.

After purchasing a Thule EasyFold XT Bike Rack, I discovered I needed the Fat Bike Straps which are not included with the rack. As much money as this rack set me back, one would think Thule would include at least one set of the extended straps. Anyway, I searched online and discovered etrailer.com where I placed an order for the straps I needed. The transaction was expedient and flawless. My requested products were shipped immediately, arrived promptly (within a couple of days) and was well packaged. I highly recommend etrailer.com! I look forward to doing business again with etrailer.com! Thank you guys! I sure appreciate your excellent service and commitment to great customer service and fast shipping!

by:

These straps are a "must have" for your fat tire E-bike. Thank you etrailer for the quick shipping. The photo shows the fat strap compared to the regular strap. For the price of this rack, they should include the fat straps.

by:

I have a first generation Thule EasyFold and a Rad Rover Step Thru Fat Tire Bike. I needed the straps to use the rack. Installation was easy, I screwed off the old straps and screwed on the new straps. They work with the fat tires and hold the ebike just fine.

I installed this on a Thule, T2 Pro XT 2. Not an exact perfect fit but it works on 4 inch fat bikes that couldn't fit the rack otherwise.

by:

Very fast service. Thank you
Other
people I've talked to have said what a great company etrailer is. I always recommend your company to others.
I got the fat tire straps for our new bike rack. We have two Lectric e bikes. I would recommend to order them if you get new bike rack. We got the Thule Easy Fold XT
Love it.

by:

Given my brief interaction with these guys, i was very impressed. Had what i needed at a good price. Got it to me fast. Absolutely on my saved list.

I don't know what I can say good about this Thule EasyFold XT 2 E-Bike Platform Rack that hasn't already been said before.
The designers of this rack knew what they were doing. As the old saying goes, "They Built A Better Mouse Trap"!
It's light weight but sturdy, secure, fender friendly, compact, portable, easy to install, no assembly or tools required and easy to load bikes on .
I was reluctant in purchasing this rack because of the initial cost but after much research I come to the conclusion as with many other purchases, that in most cases you get what you pay for.
I really like the one person ease of loading and solid method of securing the bikes, the built-in 3 security locks using the same key, the fold-up compactness for storage and the ramp to aid in loading our 63 lb. E-bikes.
If your spending $4,000 to 8,000 for E-Bikes don't cut corners. Keep them save and secure going down the road.
I highly recommend this Thule Hitch Bike Rack for E-Bikes.

by:

The stock straps on the EasyFold XT weren't long enough to handle our fat ebike tires. These are plenty long--I have to tuck in the excess in order to keep them from flapping around (although they don't drag on the ground). Work great!

by:

I wish Thule included these straps in their 1000 dollar bike rack but alas, they don't. Easy to install and they do the trick beautifully!

by:

etrailer is awesome. Very knowledgeable and fair pricing. We have bought numerous items from them and have always gotten good service. These straps were a game changer for us. Made it so much easier to securer our heavy eBikes.

Great a must for fat tire eBikes. Thule should really have these straps come standard with the EasyFold XT

by:

I recently bought a Thule Easy Fold bike rack. It is a great bike rack, however, my Elux bike doesn't quite fit the stap length. I ordered the fat tire straps and the problem was resolved. Great product!

Product performs well and shows no depreciation after 1 year. Excellent choice for e-bikes.

Straps worked well. They are plenty long enough for my fat tire ebike. They were easy to install and seem durable enough for extended use.

Straps are great and extend length so they will fit around any fat tire bike. Very hard to find so lots of Fat Tire owners buying them.

  • Can Thule EasyFold E-Bike Rack Carry Aventon E-Bike
The Thule EasyFold XT part # TH903202 would be a great rack to use with your Aventon e-bikes and you would not need to use the bike frame adapter bar as we have confirmed this with customers who have this rack and also your bike. You will need the fat bike strap kit part # TH985101 though.

From the sounds of your question, I assume you are talking about the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE # HLY84FR. If this is the rack you are referring to, yes! It works with 20" diameter tires as long as you have the adapter # HLY24FR for each bike. This adapter does not come with the rack itself. This rack is a great choice because it has a super high 80 pound per bike weight capacity. It also accommodates fat bike tires up to 5 inches wide (if you have them). As far as your step-thru...

The Thule Easy Fold XT E-bike rack part # TH903202 that you referenced is definitely the best e-bike rack around and what I would recommend for your Rad Mini Step Thru bikes. Since they have fatter tires you'd just need the fat bike straps part # TH985101 and you'd be set. You'd need a set of these for each bikes since included straps can fit up to 3 inch wide bike tires. I do have a solution for you, but while we do have 4-bike racks that work with fat tire bikes, none of them are able to carry 4 bikes that weigh in at 65 - 70 lbs each like what you're talking about. The closest we have is something like the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE Bike Rack for 4 Bikes # HR1400Z which only goes up to 50 lbs per bike. Because of this, I believe your best scenario is to fold up 2 of the bikes and put them in the back of your vehicle and then using a bike rack like...

The EasyFold XT is one of the best bike racks available due to it's ability to transport many different types of bikes and the quality-of-life features it offers. I have a great solution for you for a bike rack with a ramp. Unfortunately, Saris does not make a ramp for the Saris MTY Bike Rack SA4031. We also do not have a bike rack that has a ramp for a single bike. With that being said, we do have a 2-bike option that comes with a ramp. For that route, I recommend the Yakima OnRamp # Y96FR (for 1-1/4" hitches) or the # Y88DJ (for 2-inch hitches). For a great rack that for your 2 fat-tire electric bikes, I recommend the Hollywood Racks RV Rider Bike Rack for 2 Electric Bikes - 2" Hitches # HLY64FR. The RV Rider will be able to accommodate fat tires up to 5 inches wide and has a maximum per-bike weight capacity of 80 pounds. Also, the RV rider comes with a long shank (7-1/2 inches from the center pinhole to the closest part of the rack) so bumper clearance should not be an issue on your 2019 GMC Yukon Denali. While I may have an answer that might work, you cannot use the Thule EasyFold XT # TH903202 if a single bike exceeds the 65-pound per bike weight capacity. For this reason, you cannot use, say, an 80 pound e-bike by itself or with another bike on the rack even if it stays under 130 pounds.
