Note: To ensure proper axle alignment and suspension performance, leaf springs should always be replaced in pairs.

Leaf springs are an integral part of your trailer suspension system. The leaf springs provide the attachment points for your trailer's axle, suspending it from the frame of your trailer. Each spring flexes to absorb road shock as you travel, allowing the axle to move somewhat independently of the rest of your trailer. This helps to reduce wear and tear on the trailer and also ensures a smooth ride.

Double-eye leaf springs attach to hangers that are welded onto your trailer. One end of this spring will attach directly to the hanger with a suspension bolt. The other end will attach to shackle straps that are suspended from a hanger. These straps allow the spring to move and pivot so that it can better compensate for uneven pavement. If you have a tandem- or triple-axle trailer, the shackle straps will be attached to the equalizer that connects multiple springs.

To mount this spring, you will need hangers, shackle straps, and suspension bolts. If you are simply replacing a spring, you may still have hangers welded onto your trailer. You should, however, replace your shackle straps because they are usually the first component to wear out. You may choose to replace old suspension bolts as well. It is recommended that you replace the other leaf spring in your setup at the same time. Because springs can sag and elongate as they wear, this new spring may not exactly match the old one, and the alignment of your trailer could be affected.

If you are fabricating a trailer, you will need to purchase a hanger kit for installation. To determine the type of hanger kit that you need, you must know the specific type of leaf spring that you have, as well as your axle capacity. Depending on the hanger kits used with them, springs can be configured to work for single-, tandem- or triple-axle applications. Hangers and other suspension components can also be purchased separately if there isn't a complete kit that works for your setup.

  • Replacement Leaf Springs For An Ice Shanty Trailer
Hey Adam, 24-5/8" is a standard sizing for 2,000lb leaf springs so the 4-Leaf Slipper Spring w/ Radius End for 2,000-lb Trailer Axles - 24-5/8" Long # e69SR is what you need. It unfortunately doesn't look like we offer a slipper spring in a higher capacity in a close enough length. You could weld on new hangers # APS4 to switch to double-eye leaf springs like the 3-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 2,500-lb Trailer Axles - 25-1/8" Long # e66SR for a bit more capacity to prevent the tires from...

  • Can 2022 Dutchmen Voltage Toy Hauler Use 24-7/8" Replacement Leaf Spring
Yes, a 24-7/8" leaf spring will work for your 2022 Dutchmen Voltage. If you took the # DX74XR and flattened it out it would measure 26-3/8" which is right in line with what you have. Assuming you have 8,000 lb axles on your toy hauler this would work well as a replacement. I have attached a link to all of our 24-7/8" long leaf springs for your reference.

  • Replacement Leaf Springs for 2022 Grand Design Solitude With 7k Axles
Hey JT! Sorry to hear about your trouble with the leaf springs. Hopefully there wasn't a lot of damage and everyone stayed safe. From what I have found the 26E-3500 is the same as the Dexter 072-027-00. This is the 6-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 7,000-lb Trailer Axles - 24-7/8" Long # DX75CR. I recommend double checking the measurements of this leaf spring to make sure they line up with what was put on, see the attached photo. If you can find a 6-leaf double eye spring with a higher rating...

  • Determining The Correct Replacement Suspension Components For A 2018 Keystone Fuzion Toy Hauler
Hey Brian, Starting with the leaf springs, you can go up in capacity but you'd have to go with 8k leaf springs since there aren't 7,500lb options available. The Dexter # DX74XR would be the correct fit since you have a 24-7/8" eye-to-eye measurement. For the equalizers I would definitely switch to something that has built in cushioning to help with ride quality and handle the extreme road shock you've been experiencing. I've seen bolts rub down through the equalizer from years of no...

  • Recommended Replacement Leaf Springs for a Dexter 7k Axle
Blane, what you're looking for is the 7-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 8,000-lb Trailer Axles # DX74XR. This spring has a 4k capacity, will work with 8k axles, has 1 3/4" wide leaves. You'll notice that these springs are a bit shorter, but that's because Dexter measures their springs under load and we measure ours relaxed, which is why there is a difference.

  • Replacement Leaf Springs for 2022 Grand Design Solitude 310GK
Hi Tom; Grand Design has a nice parts site that usually helps to narrow down replacement parts for their trailers. However, your particular trailer has 5 different possible axles. All of them are 7k or 8k so that helps a little bit. If you take a look at your axle tag you should be able to figure out which you have. In addition to the axle capacity you're going to have to measure the leaf springs. I went ahead and attached an article below which explains how to measure. With these two...

  • Recommended Leaf Springs and Shackle Kit for a 2021 Grand Design Solitude 346FLS
Thanks for the picture! It's hard to say how much your springs have stretched out over 3 years but an inch seems pretty reasonable. If you have the ability to jack one side of the trailer up you could get a more accurate measurement. I would make sure you have the same amount of leafs as the 7-Leaf Double-Eye Spring item # DX74XR you were looking at because that will definitely affect your ride height and comfort if you're adding some. I did notice you have 7,000 lbs axles, item # e64SR...

  • Replacement Leaf Spring for a 2024 Grand Design Influence 2903RL
Hey Steve! I can't guarantee the 7-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 8,000-lb Trailer Axles item # DX74XR is gong to be the correct spring even though your trailer's pretty new. We recommend measuring the springs with the weight off of them because they stretch out once you start using them and there's a lot of factors that speed this process up not just the age of the spring. Additionally, I do not have a database I can look up and see what specific spring your 2024 Grand Design Influence 2903RL...

  • Does Going to Trailer Leaf Spring with More Leaves Increase or Decrease Height of Trailer
Hey Henry, that's a great question but the answer is that it depends...it depends on if your axle is above the leaf spring or below it. If your axle is above the leaf spring it wouldn't affect the trailer height. If below it would raise it. Since each leaf is about 1/2 inch thick the height difference would be right around 1/2 inch if you went with the # DX74XR since it's a 7 leaf spring vs. a 6.

  • Can a 2022 Grand Design Momentum W/ 3.5K Springs Be Upgraded to 4K Springs
Hey Kenny you can upgrade your leaf springs to a higher rated 4k spring like the 7-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 8,000-lb Trailer Axles # DX74XR. I'm just going to need to know what your current spring measures from center eye to eye, as well as the spring seat center to spring seat center. From here I'd be happy to make a recommendation for a higher capacity spring.

  • Recommended Upgraded Leaf Springs for a Trailer Travel Trailer That Has Rubbing Tires
Hey Bill, sorry to hear about all the trouble you're having but after looking at the pictures you sent in I'd have to agree with the tech. I think you're going to need to up your springs to a beefier set like the 7-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 8,000-lb Trailer Axles # DX74XR. These springs, since they'll be bigger than the ones you have now, shouldn't go flat causing your tires to rub. The only way these would flatten would be if the trailer is overloaded, but since you're saying the trailer...

Hey Jason, While we don't have a 24-5/8 inch leaf spring for an 8k axle, we do have one that is close, the 24-7/8 inch long Dexter 7-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 8,000-lb Trailer Axles # DX74XR. I know it's not specifically what you were asking, but I wanted to mention it just in case it can work for you as you mentioned the approximate 24-5/8 inch measurement (from center eye to center eye). This is the only length of double-eye spring we offer for 8k axles so hopefully it works for you.

Next you'll measure from the center of one eyelet over to the center of the other eyelet to determine the length. That measurement along...

  • Why Is It Not Recommended To Step Up to 8,000LB Leaf Springs Instead of 7,000LB Leaf Springs?
We do not recommend moving from 7,000lb # e64SR to 8,000lb # DX74XR leaf springs as this creates a stiffer ride with more bounce. This causes more shock to transfer inside your RV which can cause damage to the trim and electronics. Instead I recommend adding the SumoSprings # SS26MV for overslung axles or # SS33HR for underslung axles. These help to absorb shock from transferring in your trailer as well as give you more support to reduce sag in the leaf springs. Also adding heavier leaf...
