  • Is it Better to Go with Higher or Lower Rise Ball Mount than Needed
You've got good instincts. I recommend going with a ball mount that has a 2 inch rise for the exact reason you mentioned, the truck will settle a bit with the tongue weight and any cargo weight. The ball mount we offer with a 2 inch rise is the Curt Class III Drawbar # C45270. This is considered an extra long ball mount, measuring 13 inches from the hitch pin hole to the ball hole. Another option is the Curt Ball Mount for 2 Inch Hitches - Angled Shank # C45230. This ball mount has...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch and Wiring for 1999 Lincoln Town Car
We have everything needed to equip your 1999 Lincoln Town Car so that it can pull your boat trailer. Starting with the trailer hitch, I recommend the Curt Class III Receiver Hitch # 13707. This Class III hitch is confirmed to fit your Lincoln Town Car and it features a towing capacity of 4,000 pounds. I recommend also verifying the capacity of your vehicle by checking your copy of the owner's manual. You will need to follow whichever capacity is lower, the vehicle's or the hitch's. I...

You can absolutely store the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness # HM11143865 in the hatch of your 2013 Subaru Outback when you aren't using it instead of routing it outside the vehicle. The connector end will be long enough to hang outside your hatch when you need to connect it to your trailer. I have added a link to the instructions and a video install for you to check out as well of the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness # HM11143865. If you also need a trailer...

Rather than using an Extension # e88YR you might consider using a extended ball mount. We have a couple different lengths depending on how much distance you will need to your Dolly # DM9713093. The distances listed below are from the center of the hitch pin to the center of the hole for mounting a hitch ball. 15-3/4" Ball Mount # 80232 13" Ball Mount # C45270 11" Ball Mount # 40345 If you can provide me with some more information about the length you need and what size ball your dolly...

  • Availability of Longer Ball Mount with 4 inch Drop

  • Can The Curt Ball Mount C45042 Be Used In The Rise Position?
Hello Mel, thanks for reaching out. The Curt Ball Mount # C45042 does come with the ball pre-torqued in the drop position. You can remove the ball and flip it over to use it in the rise position, but you would need a torque wrench and a 1" lock nut in order to do this. Since it comes pre-torqued this one is generally only used in the drop position. If you want something not pre-torqued, use the # C45270 ball mount and the # 40038 ball.

  • Solution for Tailgate That is Hitting A-Frame Jack
While your frustration is understandable and we have a solution for you, I wouldn't be able to tell you with absolute certainty that using the Stromberg Carlson Electric Trailer Jack # JET-3755 will stop your tailgate from hitting the jack. The reason is, A-frame jacks like these mount to a specific place on your trailer and if your tailgate comes down at that point, they will hit. What you can do instead is use a side-frame mount jack like the Fulton Marine Jack # HD50000101 or you could...

The distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the gusset welded onto the Curt # C45311 is 4 inches, as shown in the provided photo. If you're wanting something with a longer shank for additional clearance, I'd recommend the Curt # C45270 which would offer a similar rise/drop but with a shank that's 8 inches long, measured from the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest part of the ball platform. The ball mount is rated for 7500 lbs. I've also provide a photo of this ball...

  • How To Tow a Trailer with the Tailgate Down
If you will be towing a 6,800 lb camper while also using the Curt Extender for 2" Receivers part # C45796 that means the trailer hitch on your vehicle will need to have a 13,600 lb weight capacity because these types of adapters reduce your weight capacity but 50%. A much better option for you will be to use a ball mount with extended shank like the Curt Class III Drawbar part # C45270 which has a 7,500 lb weight capacity and measures 13" from the center of hitch pin hole to center of ball...

  • Is the Curt Ball Mount part # C45270 a Hollow or Solid Shank Ball Mount
The Curt Ball Mount part # C45270 that you referenced is a hollow shank accessory. It may seem counterintuitive but hollow shank accessories are actually stronger than solid ones and would be considerably lighter. This ball mount has a 7,500 lb trailer capacity and 750 tongue weight capacity. Based on the weight of your trailer this ball mount should work well. For a 2-5/16 inch ball to fit this you would want the part # C40007, for a pin and clip # F-4 or for a locking one part # e98880.

  • How To Prevent Jeep Spare Tire From Hitting Jack and Propane Tank Cover On Trailer While Towing
Yes, there will be an effect on towing capacity when using a hitch extender. The Hitch Extender For 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver part # HE06 for example that you referenced will cut your towing capacity in half, so 1,750 lbs. This will also be the case for all adapters like the above. That said, I do have options for you that will give you additional clearance and will not reduce your towing capacity below 3,500 lbs. I recommend the Curt Class III Drawbar part # C45270 which offers a 2"...

  • Recommended Hitch Extender to Clear Truck Camper on 2016 Ram 2500
The dual tube TorkLift extenders that you mentioned do offer a longer extension but they are designed specifically for dual receiver trailer hitches from TorkLift like # TLC1204. Unfortunately there is not one currently available for your 2016 Ram 2500 so your only option will be with a standard single tube extender. The longest standard extender we have available is an 18 inch long unit like the Curt # C45796. This inserts into a 2 inch receiver like what you already have on your truck...

  • Recommended Trailer Jack To Clear Tailgate With A-Frame Trailer
I do have an option for you but the tongue jack only needs to be rated for the tongue weight of your trailer which will only be around 10-15% of its loaded weight. Therefore, you are likely only going to need around a 700-1,000 lb weight capacity. The higher rated you go, the better off you will be but an 8,000 lb option would be far too much. In order to clear your tailgate while the trailer is attached you are likely going to need a side mount, swivel option. I recommend the Bulldog Round...

The distance from the mounting bracket to the top of the jack is 23". This jack would clear a tailgate if the measured distance from the back of the tailgate to the jack mounting point on the trailer was 24", which gives 1" of clearance. It can not be mounted at 90 degrees. No electric jack like this can. If you are worried about...

Remember that there is a light on the jack that will also no longer shine in the correct direction. These will move the ball for the trailer further from your truck so that you will be able to use the jack in its current position. The...

  • Recommendation to Extend Trailer Hitch for Towing Pop Up Camper with 2013 Ford F-150
The best option for clearing the open tailgate on your Ford F-150 when towing a trailer is with an extended ball mount like the Curt # C45270. This ball mount measures 13 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the ball hole and has a gross towing weight capacity of 7,500 pounds. This ball mount also has either a 2 inch rise or 4 inch drop, so you will want to make sure that is appropriate for towing your trailer level. • Determining Clearance Needed Between Travel Trailer and Tow Vehicle Rear Bumper
There isn't a specific clearance number that is needed between a travel trailer and tow vehicle rear bumper, as it will really depend on several factors including the width of both the trailer and your motorhome. A V-Nose trailer like what you have will also reduce any potential for turning clearance issues. What I recommend doing is taking your motorhome and trailer out to an empty parking lot so you can make some slow, controlled turns. You can have a buddy observe how close the trailer...

One thing to keep in mind is that you may need a longer shank if you don't already have an extended one. You can see these towing specs in the page from the owner's manual (page 179) that I linked for you. • How to Gain Turning Clearance between a Truck and Bumper Pull Trailer
The problem that you will run into when using a hitch extender is the tongue weight capacity of your trailer hitch will be reduced by 50 percent. Based on the weight of your trailer and the fact that you are adding a water tank to the tongue of the trailer, I would guess that your current trailer hitch might not have the weight capacity to handle the trailer tongue weight if the capacity was reduced by 50 percent. The best option for your situation is to use a longer ball mount. I am...

  • Why are Some Ball Mounts Longer Than Others?
The reason some ball mounts have different lengths is simply to allow for more clearance between the tow vehicle and trailer. Some people like a longer ball mount if, for example, they want to be able to open the tailgate of their truck when the trailer is attached. Something like the Curt # C45270, which is 13" long may allow that while Curt # C45010, which is 8-1/4" long, may not. I've added a link to each of our ball mounts for you to take a look at.

  • Best Solution For a Truck Tailgate To Clear The Electric Tongue Jack On a A-Frame Trailer
I am not aware of any electric trailer jacks that you can rotate just the head of the jack 90 degrees. I have seen the jacks rotated the 120 degrees to line up with the bolt holes that the jack uses to mount to the trailer. This may make your jack more difficult to operate depending on what side of the trailer you are on and if it has a light it will not likely shine on the coupler to help you see at night. I recommend using an extend ball mount or weight distribution shank. The Curt...

You might be able to use part # HE18, which is a hitch extender. This item adds 18 inches to the length of the receiver but also cuts in half its tongue weight capacity.
