Video Transcript for Tow Ready Gorilla Guard Trailer Coupler Lock Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Tow Ready Grill and Guard Coupler Lock. We've got two sizes available. The 2" is part number 63228; the 2-5/16" is part number 63227. These trailer coupler locks are great for securing your unattended trailer, preventing anybody from being able to hook up to them. They offer a gorilla guard design, which as you can see is a nice, heavy-duty lip, with structural supports all the way around our lock to prevent any kind of tampering. It has a single action, cylinder style key. Push in, a quarter turn out.

Key is removable. To attach it to your trailer we simply bring it onto our coupler, push up on the lock. As you can see that's all there is to it. Our trailer is secure, we can leave it for a while and don't have to worry about anybody hooking up to it and it getting taken from us. Now that we've gone over the details and you've seen how it works, that will complete today's look at the Tow Ready Gorilla Guard Coupler Locks, part number 63228 in 2" and part number 63227 in 2-5/16". .

  • Replacement Key Needed for Gorilla Guard Trailer Coupler Lock
It sounds like you are looking for the replacement key from Reese. Reese is a sister company of Fulton and Tow Ready who is now carrying the Gorilla Guard Coupler Locks # 63228 and # 63227. Replacement keys are no longer available so replacing the lock is the best option we can offer now.

  • How To Find Replacement Keys for The Gorilla Guard Trailer Coupler Lock
The 350.054 is the patent number for the Gorilla Guard Trailer Coupler Locks 2" # 63228 and 2-5/16" # 63227 and not the key number. You will need to have the key number off of the key to get a replacement from the manufacturer. If you do not have a key you will need to contact a lock smith to remove the lock and order a new lock for your coupler.

  • Coupler Lock Comparison for Securing a Travel Trailer
Any type of lock you put on your trailer will be a theft deterrent. I recommend using the Fastway Universal Coupler Lock, part # FA86-0015-316, because it can mount on 1-7/8, 2 and 2-5/16 inch couplers and it fits on a wide variety of coupler types. The Diversi-Tech lock will be harder and noisier to break off than the Master Lock coupler lock which is a better deterrent for thieves. Wheel locks are also a secure option, but can be tedious to apply and still gives thieves a chance to...

  • Looking for Fulton Replacement Key
Hey Jim, I wish we could help but we can't get the Fulton replacement keys any more as they discontinued them for us. You'll need to cut the lock off your trailer and then get a new one.

  • Are There Replacement Keys Available for Gorilla Guard Coupler Locks
I will say that we've encountered this question before and I'm sorry to report that replacement key for your Trailer Coupler Lock - Gorilla Guard for 2-5/16" Couplers # 63227 are not available. The best solution we can offer you in this case is to replace the entire coupler lock with a new # 63227.

  • Replacement Gorrilla Guard Coupler Lock to Replace Lost Key and Key Number
Since the key and number are both gone your only option unfortunately is going to be to cut it off and replace it. The Gorilla Guard part # 63227 would be a great replacement if you wanted to stick with what you have.

  • Recommended Coupler Lock For Adjustable Ball Coupler
The HITCH-LOCK Trailer Guard Coupler Lock by Dutton-Lainson # DL13980 is a great option for both keeping your trailer coupler locked in place and deterred from theft. You of course need an external padlock like the Master Lock Padlock # ML1KA for this application. If you are just looking for a lock when the trailer is not coupled, I recommend the Trailer Coupler Lock - Gorilla Guard for 2" Couplers # 63228 or # 63227 in 2-5/16 inch.

  • Choosing the Correct Size Trailer Coupler Lock
The coupler size should match the ball size it is coupling to. If you have a ball with a 2 inch diameter then you would need a 2 inch coupler lock. If the ball is 2-5/16 inches in diameter you would need a 2-5/16 inch coupler lock. For 2 inch we have the Trailer Coupler Lock - Gorilla Guard # 63228 that is featured in the video you cited. For 2-5/16 inch we have the Trailer Coupler Lock - Gorilla Guard # 63227.

  • Which Coupler Lock Would Best Fit my 2-5/16 Inch Coupler with a 3-3/4 Inch Wide Lip
The Gorilla Guard for 2 inch couplers, part # 63228, would be so snug it would not be easy to get on and off, not to mention the curved portion up front may not fit the larger 2-5/16 coupler nose. The Gorilla Guard for 2-5/16 inch couplers, part # 63227, would be a better fit, though it will accept couplers of a greater width than yours, it should not be loose enough that it would not be able to prevent theft. You could also look into a different style of lock. I have included a link...

  • How to Operate the Tow Ready Gorilla Guard Coupler Lock # 63227
I made a short video showing how the Gorilla Guard Coupler Lock, # 63227, should operate. If you are operating the lock correctly, then there could be an issue with the lock core or key and the unit would need to be replaced. If you find that the issue is with the lock, lock core or key and you purchased the item from us, feel free to contact our customer service team at 1-800-298-8924.

  • What Materials are the Gorilla Guard Coupler Locks Made Of
I called the manufacturer regarding the construction of the the Gorilla Guard Locks, part # 63228 and part # 63227. The main portion is a black-painted SAE-903 spec. steel casting. I pulled the lock from our warehouse to take a close look. The lock and pin are cast as well and appear to have a zinc coating. The keys are brass.

  • Will the Gorilla Guard Coupler Lock Fit a 2007 Airstream Safari Trailer
In order to determine if the Gorilla Guard lock, # 63227, will fit your Airstream, you will need to take a couple of measurements. First measure how thick the lip is, top to bottom. If it is less than 5/16 of an inch, it will fit inside the lock. Next, you will need to measure the coupler width including the lip. It the width is less than 4-1/8 inches, it will fit. If your coupler has larger measurements, let me know what they are and I will try to find a lock that will work for you.

  • Gorilla Guard Coupler Lock Recommendation for a 2-5/16 inch Wide Lip Coupler
Yes, it sounds like you would want a Gorilla Guard For 2-5/16 inch Couplers # 63227. This is a Gorilla Guard coupler lock that is designed for 2-5/16 inch couplers that should work well for you.

  • Gorilla Guard Coupler Lock Recommendation for 2 inch and 2-5/16 inch Ball Coupler
2-1/8 inch is not a standard hitch ball size. Because of that none of the locks we offer like the part # 63228 are going to fit. You might measure again to see if you happen to have a 2-5/16 inch ball which would mean you would need the # 63227 instead. If you do happen to have a 2 inch ball the part # 63228 would be a fit.

  • 2-5/16 Inch Trailer Coupler Locks that Can be Keyed Alike
Gorilla Guard # 63227 cannot be ordered with a specific lock and multiple new ones cannot be ordered keyed the same but we do have numerous 2-5/16 inch coupler locks that can be keyed alike. I have included a link to the options for you. The most popular is # FA86-0015-316 can be ordered together with the same key but there are others and some that can even key to match the vehicle key (though not all vehicle keys apply though it is explained on the product pages).

  • Recommended Trailer Coupler Lock For 2-5/16" Coupler That Can Be Keyed Alike
We sure do! I recommend the etrailer Trailer Coupler Lock for Flat Lip 2-5/16" Ball Coupler # e87ZR if the trailer coupler has a rolled lip, or the # e98894 if the trailer coupler has a flat lip. These can be keyed alike just like you are wanting, but you will need to order all of the locks at the same time. I would see which style you need, and how many you need that way you know exactly which ones and how many of each to order. I included videos of the products for you to take a look at.

  • Coupler Lock Recommendation for a 2014 Jayco White Hawk
The Gorilla Guard part # 63227 would be an excellent choice for your 2014 Jayco White Hawk 28DSBH as long as the coupler on your trailer is designed to fit a 2-5/16 inch ball, the coupler width is not wider than 4-1/8 inches and the height of the coupler lip is not greater than 5/16 of an inch. If you had a 2 inch ball coupler you would want the 2 inch version of that lock, part # 63228. Another very popular and well-reviewed coupler lock is the Fastway Trailer Coupler Lock part # FA86-0015-318....

  • Trailer Coupler Lock Recommendation When MasterLock and DeadBolt are Too Long
If you want a bar and key style lock like the deadbolt, the smallest span that will still fit your coupler is 2 inches. So you will have 3/4 inches left over. Since you have already tried MasterLock and Deadbolt, maybe you would be interested in a different type of lock. I have included a link to our coupler lock main page for you to view. You might find something like the Gorilla Guard, # 63227, will give you a better fit.

  • Coupler Lock Recommendation for Trailer with Lip Around Coupler

  • How to Determine if Gorilla Guard Coupler Lock will Fit a Rolled Lip Coupler
Since there are many different sizes of rolled lip couplers, even if I tried it on one here and it worked there is no guarantee that it will fit your coupler. So we have determined the measurements that will fit the coupler lock # 63227. The overall width of the coupler, including the lip, cannot exceed 4-1/8 inches. And the lip cannot be more than 5/16 inches tall. Depending on the coupler you have, another option is to use a latch lock such as # e98886. Latch locks prevent the handle...

I can't recommend you modify the part # 63227 to fit the coupler on your trailer but we do have the Fastway coupler lock part # FA86-0015-318 that we have found to be very universal and can fit almost any coupler out there. I attached a picture that shows several of the coupler styles it easily fits.

  • Trailer Coupler Lock Recommendation for a Bulldog A-Frame Coupler # BD43805W0317
The Fulton Gorilla Guard coupler locks, like # 63227, fit on couplers that have a lip. That is part of what holds them in place. Since the Bulldog coupler, # BD43805W0317, does not have a lip, it would require a different type of lock. A lock like # FA86-0015-316, would be a good choice. It fits 1-7/8 inch, 2 inch, and 2-5/16 inch couplers. Another options is a lock like # 2847DAT. This type of lock will prevent the latch from moving. I have included a video review of the lock for you.
