Optronics UCL59 Series Thinline Sealed LED Utility Light

Sonically Sealed, Waterproof Trailer Light

The waterproof construction of this light makes it ideal for use on trailers that may be submerged, like a boat trailer. The housing and lens are sonically sealed together to create a single unit, which means that water will not get into the light and damage the diodes or circuit board.

Raw Lumens vs. Effective Lumens

Lumens are used to measure the amount of usable light that is put out by a light source. Raw lumens represent the number of lumens that the manufacturer claims the LEDs are capable of producing. It does not include the light's drive method or the amount of light lost from the lens or reflector. Effective lumens take these factors into account and represent the number of lumens that are actually produced by the complete light assembly, not just the amount of light that the diodes are capable of producing. This light has a 585 raw lumen capacity and produces 386 effective lumens.

Video Transcript for Optronics Trailer Lights - Utility Lights - UCL59CB Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to take a look at the Optronics Submersible Thinline LED Utility Light. This is a very low-profile light that'll provide bright white light for an interior or exterior area. It is sonically sealed waterproof housing and lens that is submersible. Uses white LEDs with a clear lens, and LEDs make great replacements for incandescent lights because they last about 50 times longer. They're more efficient which they'll provide brighter light with less power output, and again, there's no bulbs to replace or no brittle filaments. The lens is a nice polycarbonate lens and housing.

If you notice in the back, it has a two-wire pigtail that includes both the power lead and the ground wire. The length of the pigtail's about six inches. This is designed to mount on the surface of your trailer. It has two mounting holes on each end. Now, the hardware to mount it is not included.A few specs on this.

The number of diodes is nine diodes. The effective lumen output is 386 lumens. Raw lumen output is 450 lumens. Power draw on this light is 12.8 volts and 0.22 amps. The wire gauge on the pigtail wires is 18 gauge, and I do want to give you some of the measurements and then we're going to hook it up just to show you how bright it is.

Basically, the overall length from the very edge to the very edge is going to be right at 12 5/8 inches long. Overall height on it is right at one inch, and then the thickness of it is right at 7/16 of an inch. The distance between the mounting holes, there's a mounting hole there and one there, center to center on the mounting holes is going to be right at 11 3/4 inches. What I'm going to do is we're going to hook the two pigtails up. The whites are ground. The black is your power.

We're going to go ahead and hook the power up. And then we're going to go ahead and hook the ground up. And with them both hooked up, we're going to go ahead and first, we're going to turn on the 12 volt power and see the light light up. Then we're going to go ahead and turn off the overhead lamps. There you go, and you can see nine diodes gives you very bright white light, lights up a very large area. Very low profile. We'll go ahead and turn back on the overhead lights. Go ahead and detach it.That should do it for the review on Optronics Submersible Thinline LED Utility Light.

I installed 2 of these inside a cargo trailer to replace the incandescent lights that no longer worked.
They work good so far.

Great product

by:

Very bright light. I used it to illuminate an enclosed work trailer.

by:

Great white led light, perfect balance of light versus draw, on the bench it pulled .34 amp which is exactly what I needed.

I attached 2 of these on the back of my boat trailer. I thought they would be a little brighter than they were. Also after 3 trips to the lake,I noticed one of them had water in it. They weren't sealed very well.

by:

I purchased two of these LED Utility Light Bars and installed under the bed rail in my pickup bed in order to light up the bed area at night. The lights were easy to install along with the chrome base mounting bracket. Looks great and supplies ample lighting in the bed area. I liked the overall length which spread the light over a large area.

by:

I installed a pair of these lights on underside of the overhang on my 5th wheel camper. They make hooking up easier as well as provide a lot of light for parking bicycles or motorcycles under the camper. Easy electrical hook up. I applied a bead of silicone RTV around the lights to prevent rain or wash water from getting inside the camper skin.

by:

Added to tie into backup lighting so early morning helps backing down boat ramp.

by:

Seems ok so far with no water intrusion into the unit. The previous one purchased got water in the unit, which you replaced and sent me the optronics.

by:

I added these as some back-up lights on my trailer. I got them because they match the existing taillights as far as size and they have a clear lens. They work pretty well but I wish they were a little brighter.

by:

I'm using this 15" LED bar for a license plate light for my custom flatbed truck. After hearing my friends were getting pulled over for dim license plate lights, I thought I would light mine up so there is no question of visibility. The tail lights are from etrailer as well!!! Awesome products.

by:

Quality replacement on rv front loading lights.

by:

Great find - glad for the transaction

by:

I'm using these as a reverse light on my boat trailer. I've got a tight driveway and they help out a ton.

A year later still working great

  • Can The LED Strip Light # ILL70CB Be Used On A 5th Wheel Front Cap
The LED Strip Light # ILL70CB is intended to be an interior light, and while the light is technically weatherproof, it is not recommended to use in a location that is directly exposed to the elements. A very similar light is the Optronics Thinline LED # UCL59CB. This is designed as an exterior utility light, and would work great on the front cap of your 5th wheel. The light itself is 12-3/8" long, with mounting holes 11-3/4" apart. I am afraid we do not have any exterior light strips with...

  • Can Optronics Thinline LED Utility Light # UCL59CB Be Used as Backup Light on Trailer
I do have a really similar option that will work great, however the Optronics Thinline LED Utility Light # UCL59CB that you referenced can't be used as a backup light on your trailer. This is simply because the light doesn't meet DOT standards, which takes things like brightness into account (it can be TOO bright) for this type of application. I instead recommend the Command Hot-Line LED Trailer Backup Light # 328-003-6017W, which features the same light bar design as the model you were...

  • Can LED Trailer Tail Lights # BUL28CLPB and # UCL59CB be Ran Off of 12 Volt Accessory Circuit
The amperage draw of each of the lights you mentioned is so low that running several of them would be no problem at all for the 12 volt power circuit of your trailer wiring. The # UCL59CB only draws .22 amps and the # BUL28CLPB only draws 0.054 amps. Most 12 volt accessory circuits are 40 amp so you'd easily be fine.
