Grease zerks in the head make for easy maintenance
Basic, bar-style friction sway control will help push your trailer back in line when it sways
Everything's included, even a pre-torqued hitch ball
Why wouldn't I buy this?
Chains don't provide much tension or stability, so sway is still bound to occur
Round bars don't provide as much ground clearance as trunnion, so you won't want this if you tow with a van or low-riding car
Can't reverse, use in inclement weather, or pair with surge brakes because of the friction sway control
Keep your trailer in line with this system that uses a telescoping bar with friction pads to correct trailer sway. Built-in grease zerks in the head provide simple maintenance. Includes an adjustable shank and pre-torqued 2-5/16" hitch ball. Lowest Prices for the best weight distribution from Curt. Create a more stable ride for your tow vehicle and trailer with a weight distribution hitch. Adding spring bars to your towing system applies leverage, which transfers the load that is pushing down on the rear of your vehicle to all the axles on both your tow vehicle and your trailer, resulting in an even distribution of weight throughout. The result is a smooth, level ride, as well as the ability to tow the maximum capacity of your hitch.
Selecting a Weight Distribution System
The tongue weight rating is the most important factor in determining which size weight distribution system you should use. If the bars of the system you choose are rated too high for your setup, they will create a rigid ride, which can result in a bouncing trailer. If, on the other hand, the bars are not rated high enough, the system will be unable to properly distribute the weight, rendering it virtually useless.
To determine the proper weight rating for a weight distribution system, you must first determine your trailer's tongue weight. Then add to that the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. These two measurements make up the tongue weight rating for a weight distribution system.
Friction Sway Control
The included friction-style sway control unit reduces trailer sway caused by winds, passing traffic, curving roads, or sudden maneuvers. As soon as your trailer begins to move out of line, the friction pads inside the unit touch one another and create resistance to help prevent further side-to-side movement. To install the unit, simply mount the ball-and-plate assembly to your trailer's frame with the included self-tapping screws, and attach the sway control ball to the head of your weight distribution hitch. Then attach the bar to both of the balls and secure it in place with the included clips.
Forged Steel Spring Bars
The round spring bars are made from forged steel, giving them a distinct advantage over typical cast steel bars. Forging is a process where thermal and mechanical energy are applied to the steel, resulting in a finished product that is more resilient to impacts and is stronger in terms of shear strength. Simply put, these spring bars do a superior job of helping to hold your trailer in line because of their added strength and durability.
Built-In Grease Zerks
The system's head features 2 built-in grease zerks so that you can easily lubricate the spring bars without having to remove them from the head assembly. The grease zerks are located on each of the shafts that encase the spring bars. Simply use a grease gun (sold separately) to inject grease into each of the zerks.
17062 Curt MV Round Bar Weight Distribution Complete Kit with Sway Control
Video Transcript for Curt Weight Distribution - WD With Sway Control - C17062 Review
Today we're going to be taking a look at part number C17062. This is the Curt weight distribution system with friction sway control. It's going to evenly distribute weight over the axles of the tow vehicle and the trailer, offering improved stability and control. Ultimately, it's going to create a more level ride for both the tow vehicle and the trailer. Your friction sway control system is included. That's going to reduce sway caused by winds, passing traffic, curving roads, or sudden maneuvers.
It's going to feature the adjustable tension. That's this bolt right here. That's going to let you set the perfect amount of control and resistance. We're going to have the built-in lever to disengage or engage the system. It's going to be held on there with a socket connecting to this ball and this socket connecting to this ball. It's going to be held in place with 2 large clips, so it allows for easier removal.
All you have to do is un-clip the bar unit from each attachment ball and then you can remove this piece. It is recommended that you remove the sway control unit before backing up or reversing and before towing in slippery conditions, such as on wet, icy, gravel, or snow-covered roads. It's easy to remove; that way, you can do that very quickly and efficiently. It's going to come with all the necessary hardware to get that unit installed. That's the sway control unit, now onto the weight distribution system. That's going to feature round spring bars.
These are going to be constructed of solid forged steel for strength and durability. You can adjust the spring bar tension by switching the links in the lift chains to fine tune the system. You can also get the desired tilt here at the head assembly, using a traditional spacer rivet and washer design. Spacer rivet installs in the hole located right behind the hitch ball, under the ball platform. Then you simply just add or remove washers from the spacer rivet to tilt the head up or down; very simple system to use. We're also going to have grease zerks right here on the head assembly.
That's going to allow for easy maintenance, always allows us to attach a grease gun and lubricate the parts that really need it. The steel is going to be powder coated, so it's going to do a good job at resisting rust and corrosion. It's also going to come with your snap-up lever. This going to ease hooking up by reducing lifting required by the trailer jack. Simply attach this to the lift brackets; it just gives you some of that extra leverage that we need for hooking up and disconnecting. Here on the head assembly, it's going to feature the 2-5/16" hitch ball that's going to come pre-installed and pre-torqued. The tongue weight for this unit is going to be 800-1,000 pounds. Maximum gross towing weight is 10,000 pounds. It is designed for 2"x2" trailer hitch receivers rated for use with weight distribution systems. We're going to have the adjustable shank already have the head assembly mounted on there, but the adjustable shank offers numerous mounting holes. That way, you can adjust the rise and drop or the height of the head assembly to fit you particular application. You can use the adjustable shank in the rise position, which is the position I have it in now. With the head assembly in the highest setting, that's going to give us a rise of 5-3/4" from the inside top edge of the receiver tube of our hitch to the top of the ball platform. With the shank in the drop position, it would give us a maximum drop with the head assembly at the lowest setting of 1-3/4", measuring again from the inside top edge of the receiver tube of our hitch to the top of the ball platform. The lift brackets are going to take up about 5" along the trailer frame and then you need to make sure that your trailer frame width will fit inside the bracket, and we're looking at an opening size of, measured here at the top, pretty close to 3". It's going to come with your 5/8" pin and clip to get the shank secured inside of your hitch. All the hardware is provided, so you get the head assembly attached to the shank to get your sway control system mounted and it's also going to come with detailed instructions. Those are going to help walk you through that installation process step-by-step. Again, a weight distribution system is really going to help distribute evenly the weight over the axles of the tow vehicle and trailer, which is going to create a more level ride for both the tow vehicle and the trailer. Then again, this unit does include the Curt sway control system. Also keep in mind a special note is that this is not for use on trailers with surge brakes. That's going to do it for today's look at part number C17062.

Product was good and solid. Installed easy. Haven't towed trailer yet, but lifted the back of the truck to within 1/2" of being level. Box arrived in horrible condition(ripped, holes and the chain hanging out) which ins't etrailer's fault (UPS--United Package Smashers) not unusual.

This was my first time buying a weight distribution system, but I'm very pleased with this product. etrailer has by far the best price, and with free shipping on this product, it was a no-brainer. The system is a heavy steel (100lbs) that seems of good quality that should last many years. Good directions for installation comes in the box, but I also viewed a YouTube video produced by etrailer which I found very helpful.
I would like to thank etrailer for their fantastic customer service. I got an email notification that my package had arrived, but when I got home it wasn't there. I called etrailer and on the second ring a customer service employee picked up the phone. The employee contacted UPS for me and called me back within 10 minutes telling me UPS would contact me within the hour. 20 minutes later UPS contacted me who told me the driver had brought the package to the wrong house, but would bring it to my house. About 15 minutes later my package was delivered. I truly appreciate etrailer's customer service, and the fact I spoke to a real person. I would definitely recommend etrailer to anyone.

Well made and heavy duty. The Curt MV Weight Distribution System is complete with nothing else to buy. Great price, fast shipping. Shipping package wasn't strong enough to support the heavy weight. Although the carton was in bad shape when it arrived there was no damage.

The hitch kit arrived in record time and didn't cost me a thing extra! The chains were already attached which cut down on assembly time. Although the instructions are a little confusing when it comes to measurements and where to measure and when, but they seem to be complete. The only thing negative I can say is be prepared to pull the hitch head off the shank a couple times to adjust the number of washers (as it does say that in the instructions). I assembled mine per instructions (except I tightened the head bolts too soon) figuring with the ball tilted back just a little, it would hook right up. Turns out, I cant even attach the last link to the clevis as it is too far back. Sooooo tomorrow I will take the head apart and remove a couple washers on the rivet and try it again. Overall, I think it will do a fine job in distributing the weight through out the truck vs all in the rear. The friction bar was easy to install too. Our camper already had a sway control at one point, so all the holes were there. We did purchase an additional Curt friction bar for the drivers side and installed it too. We haven't towed the camper yet with this set up (as stated above, its not quite assembled correctly yet) but am planning on the maiden voyage this weekend. Thanks ETRAILER for another sweet deal on quality products!

Still working Great! The only negative thing I have seen is there are some marks where the friction bars have contacted the hitch head, so either the ball mounts on the trailer are too low, or the hitch head is tilted back too far to properly accommodate the friction bars correctly.

The angle of the hitch head may be a factor, but commonly we see damage to the anti-sway bars when they are not removed while backing-up. This system is not designed to be used while backing up your trailer.

The Curt Hitch setup works great and after towing over 120 days this past year, I have had no problems. The only thing I would improve on is probably impossible (the weight of the components).

The hitch is of high quality. It took me about 45 minutes with double checking everything, I didn’t have to mount the sway bar ball on trailer, already had one. I’ve only put about fifty miles on it just to test and get the feel of it, I’m vary happy with! First photo standered hitch 3/4 lift, second photo Curt distribution hitch and sway bar.

Have used the load leveling one time and it made a world of difference, just installed anti sway and will be taking a 10hr trip to Canada this weekend so we will get the full use of the complete setup. Installation was actually extremely easy, only had to make minor adjustments and it came out perfect. I would recommend to any of my friends with a camper or even heavy trailer.

Haven't towed with it yet. The installation was pretty simple. I installed for use with a v-nose 3 horse trailer that I tow with a 1/2 ton truck. My only complaint, and this may be a shipping company issue, the box had huge holes in it. I was missing the hitch head, 2 5/16" ball, and ball mount for the sway control. We'll see how it performs while hauling the horses down the road. I will say that etrailer.com customer support is awesome. They shipped out parts right away to replace what was lost.

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.
For a loaded tongue weight of 755... view full answer...
We have a version of the Curt MV WD system part # C17062 that you referenced which doesn't come with a ball which then allows you to add the size needed to your order. For that you'd want the # C17052 and the Curt ball # 40038 which is a 2 inch hitch ball that also has the correct shank dimensions to fit this system. Then to add on the sway control unit you'd also want the part # 17200. view full answer...
You can indeed swap out the spring bars on the Curt MV Weight Distribution System # C17062 with the lower rated Curt Spring Bar # C17113 to bring its tongue weight capacity range down to 600 to 800 pounds. The bars feature the same diameter and are interchangeable on your system. No additional hardware will be needed when making this conversion. This is a perfect solution if you switch to a lighter trailer so that the system won't be over-rated, which can cause a pretty rough ride that... view full answer...
Curt offers a chain hanger that is designed to bolt to the side of a trailer frame, part # C17005. You could easily use these with the Curt kit part # C17062 that you referenced. The included shank on the Curt MV Weight Distribution System # C17052 will provide a maximum of 2-1/2" of drop. In order to get this down to 6" or even more, the Curt Weight Distribution Shank # C17124 provides you up to 9-1/2" of drop and is adjustable in 1-1/4" increments.
At pretty much the same price point you can instead get this weight distribution system including friction sway control like the Curt MV # C17062. Sway control will make a significant difference in your towing... view full answer...
With weight distribution backing up is possible with the system installed, but you will have to make sure you are backing up mainly in a straight line. If there is any chance you could end up with your trailer jackknifed you will want to remove the spring bars. view full answer...
Just to be accurate, when referring to tongue weight, it is the tongue weight of your loaded trailer plus the weight of the cargo that sits behind the rear axle of your vehicle. When measuring trailer TW the best way is to use a tongue weight scale # 5780, TW is typically about 10 to 15 percent of the Gross Towing Weight.
I want to make sure that your 2,000lb trailer is fully loaded and the 450lb TW is accurate to ensure a safe tow and the correct recommendations are being made.

I have attached an article on how to accurately measure tongue weight. This system can handle up to 1,000lbs in TW.
The above system is rated for 800-1000lbs TW. If you fully load your trailer to 5000lbs and you have 15 percent tongue weight you will be under 800 pounds. If we add what you will have... view full answer...
The Curt MV Weight Distribution System w/ Friction Sway Control - Round Bar # C17062 and the 17022 you referenced is basically the difference between the old style and new style according to my contact at Curt. The newer style # C17062 has a built in grease zerk for easy maintenance where the older 17022 will require you to add grease to the round bar sleeve in the head with the bar removed and cleaning up the excess versus simply using a grease gun.

In addition to all the items on the trailer that will increase its dry tongue weight, you'll also need to add the weight of anything you carry in the bed of the truck behind the rear axle.
The right way to do this is to load up the trailer as you would typically have it, and take it to a truck scale or use the # 5780 Sherline Tongue Weight Scale.
Ideally, the TTW of your trailer should fall as close as possible to the middle of the effective range of the weight distribution system... view full answer...
The Curt MV Weight Distribution System part # C17062 uses a hitch ball with a 1-1/4" shank which means you will need a 1-7/8" socket part # ALL643216 in order to remove it. view full answer...
Most weight distribution spring bars are about the same length. Typically they are either 29 or 31 inches in length.
The spring bars of the Curt # C17062 would be 30-5/8 inches, and the bars of the # PS49903 would be 31-1/4 inches. view full answer...
Your trailer won't have enough tongue weight to get the spring bars of the Curt # C17062 Weight distribution system to flex, it'll make for a rough ride and the system won't distribute enough (if any) tongue weight to the front vehicle axle to level your ride height.
I'd recommend a lower rated system like the Pro Series # PS49902 which is rated for tongue weights ranging from 550 to 750 lbs. Ideally, you want the fully loaded and ready to tow tongue weight of your trailer (including... view full answer...
The Curt MV Weight Distribution System w/ Friction Sway Control - Round Bar - 10K GTW, 1K TW # C17062 is not available without the shank. For your raised truck, you can interchange companies for the shank head, however the companies may void your warranty. I recommend using the Curt Welded Weight Distribution Shank 7" - 10 Hole Adjustment # C17123, for your lifted truck. This will give you a maximum drop of 5-5/8 inches. If you need a bigger drop than that, you will need to use # C17124. view full answer...
The spring bars of the Curt Weight Distribution System # C17062 that you referenced are 30-5/8 inches in length.
A better solution for you might be the Curt Short Arm System part # C17332 that has the same weight rating as the system you referenced except the bars are 2 inches shorter.
Otherwise you may have to go with chain hangers that bolt to the side of the trailer frame like part # RP58305. These don't require any clearance above the trailer frame for install so they should work well. view full answer...
You can use a weight distribution hitch with your 2007 Honda Pilot provided that the hitch is rated for use with weight distribution (should be a sticker on the hitch with this information) and that the weight distribution system is set up properly to avoid reducing handling, stability, and braking performance.
To choose a weight distribution system you will need to go by the total tongue weight of the set up. This is calculated by taking the tongue weight of the trailer, when loaded... view full answer...
I have a solution for you, but the Curt MV Weight Distribution Hitch # C17062 is not going to be a good fit for you because it's rated for a much higher weight at 1000-lbs tongue weight and 10,000-lbs towing weight, than is required for your Jayco Hummingbird. While the towing capacity is important, the tongue weight of your trailer is equally, if not more important. With a trailer that weighs in around 3200-33000-lbs total, you can expect your tongue weight to be anywhere from 10-15% of... view full answer...
Your best solution for determine the loaded tongue weight is going to be to contact the manufacturer of your camper and ask them how much weight of the camper is going to end up behind the rear axle. If the camper weighs 4,000 lbs in the be of your truck you could be looking at a wide range of tongue weight to consider.
The tongue weight capacity of the SuperTruss Extension would not need to consider the tongue weight added by the camper, but when picking out a weight distribution system... view full answer...
I can help you figure out if the setup your friend is looking at will work well for the 2016 Dutchman Camper. You are correct about having the correct equipment to help prevent any contact with the truck and camper, even in an emergency situation.
Let's start with the hitch, the Curt # C14002 is a great hitch for his truck if it didn't already come with one. Its weight capacity is the highest among the ones offered for his vehicle but its important to note that it will not increase... view full answer...
The Curt MV Weight Distribution System w/ Friction Sway Control - Round Bar - 10K GTW, 1K TW # C17062 can use different weight distribution shanks as you mentioned where length is needed. For your 1999 Ram 2500, you won't have any issues with the shank that comes with this particular system. The extended length shanks are for vehicle where there isn't enough clearance from the bumper or there is a different rise or drop needed based on modifications to factory height. The shank that... view full answer...
Trailer weight distribution/sway control systems like Curt # C17062, which uses the friction bar type anti-sway, and even the integrated anti-sway systems built into other weight distribution systems like the Equal-I-zer # EQ37120ET will generate some noise. Since they use friction to control/prevent sway some noise is inevitable, even when everything is set up correctly.
Depending on the particular system and driving conditions this noise can be enough for you to hear it in the vehicle.... view full answer...
The key to selecting the correct weight distribution and sway control system is knowing the trailer's fully-loaded ready-to-tow tongue weight (TW) just as it will be when you head out. To this measured TW you need to add the weight of anything in the tow vehicle that sits behind the rear axle, such as a generator or loaded cooler. Once you know this total effective tongue weight (TTW) you can use the link provided to choose a system with sway control. Please refer to the linked article... view full answer...
Both round and trunnion bar systems are equally as effective, but a round bar system won't have as much ground clearance under it as a trunnion bar system. This is because the bars attach to the weight distribution head from underneath. If your tow vehicle is a full sized pick-up or SUV, a round bar system would work just fine. If you're towing with a small crossover or a minivan (anything with little ground clearance) you'd definitely want to go with a trunnion bar system.

The Curt Weight Distribution System with Sway Control, # C17062, has built in friction sway control. You may find this system to meet your needs as is, however you do have the option of adding an additional Curt Friction Sway Control for Weight Distribution System, # 17200, to the other side for increased sway control and friction on both sides of the trailer. The typical requirements for using 2 sway-control bars are if your Gross Towing Weight is between 6,000 and 10,000 lbs or if your... view full answer...

It sounds like you not only need longer shank but an adjustable ball mount as well. I recommend the Pro Series, part # 63071. It has two hitch balls; a 2 inch at 10,000 pounds capacity and a 2-5/16 inch at 14,000 pounds so it'll be plenty heavy enough for you. It measures 12-1/16 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the hitch ball and also provides up to 5-7/8 inches of drop.

I can help you get set up with all the right equipment for towing a travel trailer with your 2015 Toyota Tundra Crew Max.
A weight distribution system is recommended if the gross vehicle weight (GVW) of the trailer is more than 50 percent of the GVW of your vehicle. A weight distribution system will distribute some of the tongue weight to the front axle of the tow vehicle. This will help with sag and allow your setup to brake and handle better.
