Solution for Installing Timbren on 2012 Silverado 2500 With Rusted Bump Stop Cups

Updated 07/20/2025 | Published 07/14/2025

Question:

Hello, I installed the Timbren GMRCK25D on my 2012 Silverado 2500HD, and they just instantly fall out. They seat all of the way, theres just not enough friction surface to hold them in. I believe the problem is a rusty cup that receives the bump stop. I cant find anyone who makes new cups that I can weld on. Do you know of a bracket or replacement mount system that will keep the Timbrens from falling out?

Hey Cliff! I'm sorry to hear you ran into that problem installing the # TGMRCK25D on your truck. You might be able to get those from your local dealer but I'm not sure. You could also have replacements fabricated and then weld them on. Unfortunately, Timbren does not make a specific bracket or alternate mounting system for this issue.

The only other option would be to switch from the Timbren SES to something like the SumoSprings Rebel # SSR-203-40-2 which uses brackets for mounting instead of being pressed into the bump stop cup.

Robin, I can't find anyone who makes a replacement cup to receive the Timbren. Rusty Silverados are the norm in many parts of the country. My workaround was to weld a 10 X 1.5 nut into the center, after much grinding and cleaning of the cup, and using a 3 3/4 inch bolt to replace what came with the Timbrens. It is mounted more securely than the press fit ever was.

@Cliff I'm glad you found a solution! I'm sure this isn't uncommon but I'm guessing manufacturers don't see it as their problem to fix or something they can sell an easy fix for, especially if it requires welding.
