Video Transcript for Feature Review Hopkins Backup Alert

Today we're going to be taking a look at part number HM20101VA. This is the Hopkins Backup Alert, replacement 3156 Bulb with an audible alert. That's to add safety while in reverse. You can replace your tail light backup bulb with this warning light. As you put your vehicle in the reverse gear, anyone or anything who might be behind you will be alerted. This is going to send out a really consistent beeping sound.

The beeping sound can be clearly heard, again, when you move your vehicle to the reverse gear. That sound will vary depending on the vehicle that this is installed in. This is not a universal application, though it does fit in any vehicles, but if your vehicle's reversible to size 3156, then this product is going to work perfect for your application. I'm going to go ahead and hook it up to our external power source that way you can see how bright the bulb is as well as hear that audible beeping alert. Here at the housing, that's where the sound's going to come out. I'll get this connected and you'll be able to hear it.

Get all the wires on there. Okay, now turn it on. You can hear that consistent beeping as well as the bright light. It's really going to send out that consistent beeping sound alerting anybody that may be behind the vehicle when we move the vehicle into the reverse gear. That's going to do it for today's review of part number HM20101VA.

This is the Hopkins Backup Alert. .

by:

Great product!

by:

works like a champ, still going a year later

by:

Works great! Everyone should have one of these.

by:

It works fine. I have only one, but if you want a really loud backup beep, get two.

by:

Cool safety feature for fun and work vehicles. This is the second one I've installed, and they have both worked great.

by:

the little guys make a lot of noise for their size. etrailer got them to us
quick. Recamend them highly.

by:

Works Great best product that I have bought on line that was the right thing and that works

by:

Back up alarm works well

by:

Loud enough to alert anyone or anything behind you. Super easy to change.

by:

Thanks for your product. The back up alert is a Christmas gift and has not been put into the vehicle as of yet. The other one is a spare for my van which already has one in it. This product is the best of it's kind. If you really want safety, then you go with backup alert. Price is Right and the product is the best. Anyone can install it. It really is a life saver. Thanks guy's.

by:

The product works great easy to install as well the price is right checked product with the same price is very high. The shipping was fast I did not have to wait very long I would recommend this company to everyone that I know and they are concerned with the customer which is nice to I can't tell you that it is nice to have a good company as this one.

by:

awesome customer service. Bridget was very friendly and professional. She addressed my shipping concerns. (Side note, she sounded hot) Product was shipped in timely manner as expected. Arrived well packaged and on time. Installation was very simple and i have been using the product for about 4 days now. Works well and saved me a good bit of money and headache. I would order from them again with out hesitation.

by:

It is not as loud as I expected that it would be. The sound alarm that attached directly to the outside of the light was louder but not very durable. This product has been durable as it is part of the bulb but it could be louder.

by:

It could be louder. Although it is not as loud as the one in my Ford van, anything is better than nothing. Thanks for the quick shipping and overall service.

by:

Customer service was great and the product fit perfect as descibed online. I would definitely use your company again and again infact i'll purchasing another hitch for my other work van. I appreciate you following up a year later. If you have any type of sticker, i would not hesitate to put it on the hitch or any product to advertise for you because when your company does good then you can continue to support your customes with great service and products

by:

I love this product. This is the second one I have had in over 30 years. The only problem was that the soldering nipple was to high and I had to file it down to the same height as the 1156. Also, I had to file some of my lens hole down so the alarm part would go in. These miner adjustment would be a great help. I do plan on ordering another one in the near future.

by:

this like and backup signal was perfect for my camper. it is a nice beep sound and does warn others you are backing up without being to obnoxious. Its a great product and ETRAILER was easy to order from. I highly recommend ETRAILER for all your transportation needs.

by:

EASY TO INSTALL, WORKS GREAT

by:

GOOD PHOTOS AND DESCRIPTIONS FAIR PRICES. DELIVERED ON TIME.
I RECOMMEND THIS VENDOR.

by:

Hopkins Backup AlertI've had it in my truck for 6 months now and it works great.

It simply replaces one of the backup bulbs in your tailights.

by:

This product is a cost effective way to provide safety warnings during construction activity. We priced other items and they were way more expensive and required a mechanic to install. In a couple of minutes we installed this item and it works perfectly. Etrailer.com has a quick and easy website and great service!

  • Is the Hopkins Backup Alert, # HM20100VA a Universal Application
The Hopkins Backup Alert, # HM20100VA, is not a universal application, though it does fit many vehicles. It fits into a common bulb size socket. You will need to check the bulbs on your vehicle or vehicles to determine if they take the 1156 bulb. If they do, then you can use this alert. Another common bulb size is 3156. If your vehicle or vehicles have this bulb number, they can use # HM20101VA. These are the only 2 alerts of this type that we carry. But we do have other options such...

  • Is there a Backup-Alert Reverse Light for Bulb Type 921 for the 2013 Chevrolet Equinox
Your 2013 Chevrolet Equinox uses a type 921 backup light bulb. The Hopkins product you reviewed, part # HM20101VA, is a replacement for the type 3156 bulb. My contact at Hopkins advises that they do not offer an audible alarm replacement bulb for the 921 type. I also checked with two other suppliers of aftermarket lighting products, Putco and Optronics, and neither of these suppliers offers a 921 replacement bulb with alarm. However, we do offer the Custer Surface Mount Back-up Alarm,...

We do have a few different options for you to add a backup alarm on your 2018 Chrysler Pacifica. You could either use the Hopkins Backup Alert # HM20101VA which plugs into your 4-Way flat connector and lights up as well as emits sound when you are backing up. Another option that doesn't involve utilizing a light is the Light-Duty to Medium-Duty Back-Up Alarm # PK41820. You will just need to ground the black wire and then run the red wire to your backup circuit. Some review articles have...

  • Backup Alarm Recommendation for Replacing 3157
A 3156 and 3157 bulb will fit in the same slot on a vehicle. The difference is a 3157 bulb has a dual intensity feature and 3156 does not. Since the Hopkins Backup Alert, # HM20101VA, is for a reverse light, a dual intensity bulb is not needed and you can use it in place of a 3157.

  • Backup Alarm for 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan
Based on my research your 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan uses a 3157 bulb for its reverse light. The Hopkins Backup Alert # HM20101VA that you referenced is designed to replace a 3156 bulb, which will physically fit in place of your van's 3157 but may not function properly because of the difference in design. We do not have a similar replacement backup alert bulb that's designed for the 3157 type bulb so your best option will be with a separate backup alarm like the Pollak # PK41820 that can...

  • Will a Reverse Alert 3156 Bulb Replace a 3057 Bulb
Yes, the Hopkins Backup Alert Replacement Bulb # HM20101VA will work for you. The 3057 and 3156 bulbs are very similar with the only difference being that the 3057 bulb is a dual filament bulb typically found in blinker/tail light applications. However, a dual filament will work fine in a single filament application like your situation.

  • Adding LED Backup Lights to a 2006 Chevy Silverado
It sounds like you are installing additional back up lights on your 2006 Chevy Silverado. The easiest way to find the correct power wire is to locate the tail light wiring and then use a circuit tester such as # PTW2992 to probe the wires when the truck is in reverse. Take all necessary precautions when performing the test including chocking the wheels, having the emergency brake on, and the person in the cab with their foot on the brake the whole time the vehicle is in reverse. • Will Hopkins Backup Alert # HM20101VA Fit 2016 Subaru Forester
I took a look at the online version of the owner's manual for your 2016 Subaru Forester and it lists a 16W watt W16W bulb for its backup light. This type of bulb can also be interchanged with a 921 bulb which is a bit more common. The Hopkins Backup Alert # HM20101VA that you referenced will only replace a 3156 bulb so it will not work on your Forester. I may have a solution for you but we do not have a backup alert available that will replace the W16W/921 bulb on your vehicle. What...

Backup alarm and light # HM20101VA will not fit your 2012 Ford F-350. It fits in place of a 3156 bulb. Your truck uses a different bulb style. To add a back up alarm you can use # BK97DB. It mounts to the underside of the vehicle and will tap into a reverse light wire. I have linked a video showing how it installs.

  • Looking for Quality, Long-Lasting Backup Alerts
The Hopkins Backup Alert # HM20101VA is made overseas and is designed more for occasional consumer use rather than on vehicles that back up frequently. For a serious backup alert I recommend the Pollak Heavy-Duty Back-Up Alarm # PK41761. Not only does it conform to SAE J994 types A, B, & C standards but it also meets state, federal, OSHA, Bureau of Mines, and US Army Corps of Engineers' requirements. A step down from it is # PK41851 which conforms to SAE J994 type B only and state, federal,...

  • Backup Alarm for a 2015 Chevy Silverado 1500
I do have some options for you but Hopkins Backup Alert # HM20101VA actually will not fit your 2015 Chevy Silverado 1500 due to the type of bulbs your truck uses for the reverse lights. What you can use is a stand alone backup alarm that will wire into a reverse light wire such as # PK41820. You can mount it pretty much anywhere under the truck. The power wire will splice into a reverse light wire and the other wire can ground to the frame. I have linked a video featuring this product for you.

According to Hopkins, the # HM20101VA Backup Alert Replacement 3156 Bulb will work with 1999-2011 Ford Vans. The same bulb will work for a 1999-2009 Ford F350. For the 2012 E350 Van and the 2010-2012 F350, I would recommend the Surface Mount Back-Up Alarm, part # BK97DB. You can actually use a 3156 in a 3157 socket. The only difference is that 3157 has a dual filament that 3156 does not have. What I recommend is the surface mount alarm, # BK97DB.
