Video Transcript for An In-Depth Look at the Rear Hanger for 1-3/4" Slipper Spring

Today we're going to be taking a look at the rear hanger for 1-3/4 inch wide slipper spring. This part includes one clip style rear hanger. It simply welds onto the frame of your trailer and holds the slipper end of a slipper spring that measures 1-3/4 of an inch wide. As you can see, it's made from a very durable steel construction. It's a weld on installation. A few measurements to go over with you real quick. Edge to edge, it's going to give us a measurement of about 2-7/16 of an inch, right in that area.

Measuring this direction, edge to edge, it's going to give us a measurement of 1 inch. Then top to bottom, it's going to have a hang down height or depth of about 1-3/16 to an inch and a quarter, right in that area. That's going to do it for today's look at the rear hanger for 1-3/4 inch wide slipper springs.

  • Mounting a Rear Slipper Spring Hanger
When welding a metal part to another piece of metal, it is always best to have as much metal touching between the two parts. With this in mind, the majority of customers will weld the top of the hanger to the frame of the trailer, leaving the side with the open portion facing the ground. This will be the same for the rear slipper spring hanger, part # 115706S.

  • Does 3-Leaf Slipper Spring w/ Radius End Require a Bushing for Rear of Spring
For the 3-Leaf Slipper Spring w/ Radius End # e99SR you only need the bushing on the one end, the other end will either sit over a bolt or will fit into a hanger like part # 115706S. If you have a double-eye spring on your trailer then you'll need something like the 25-1/8" Long 3-Leaf Double-Eye Spring # e66SR instead. Attached are some videos for you to check out as well.

  • Hanger Spacing Dimensions for Installing Slipper Springs on a Boat Trailer
When determining the hanger spacing for a slipper spring you want to go with the dimensions that the hanger kit calls for. For example if you were using the slipper spring hanger kit part # APS3SE with the # SP-177275 you would want a distance of 22-11/16" inches between the hangers measured on center. This would put the hanger right at the beginning of the curve on the spring.

  • Hanger Bolt Recommendation for a 3-Leaf Slipper Spring # WIE3
You need to use a 9/16 inch bolt for the front eye of the 3-Leaf Slipper Spring that your referenced part # SP-178275. For that I would recommend the Spring Eye Bolt with Lock Nut part # 166079. The correct rear hanger is part # 115706S if it's a single axle trailer. Since the spring does not have an eye on the back of it you do not need to match a 9/16 inch bolt to anything.

  • Can Slipper Spring Replace Existing Double Eye Leaf Spring
You could replace a double-eye leaf spring with a slipper spring like the # e33SR spring you'd looked at, but it's recommended that you remove the existing rear hanger (assuming it's a single axle trailer) with a rear hanger like # 115706S as your existing rear hanger isn't designed for use with slipper springs. You'll also want to choose a spring with sufficient capacity to handle the weight of the boat and trailer. You can choose a higher rated spring than your existing one, but be aware...

  • Do Trailer Slipper Springs Normally Slip Out of their Rear Hangers
It's hard to see in your picture but is the hanger open on the one side which allows the spring to slide out to the side? It shouldn't be open like that. If you need a replacement hanger we have the # 115706S for if you have a 1-3/4 inch wide spring. Slipper springs slipping out of their hangers is not common, even though saying that out loud and considering the name...it would seem like it would be! It would take a rather larger bump and perfect circumstances normally for a spring to...

  • Troubleshooting Why Equalizer is Touching Frame on Triple Axle Trailer
It is common to have a slight variation in the position of your equalizers but one should not be touching the trailer frame. I recommend checking to make sure that you are using the same equalizers, springs, and center hanger size in your set-up.

  • Replacement Leaf Spring for 1987 Shoreline Boat Trailer 3000 lb
The most important thing to match when replacing trailer leaf springs is the weight capacity. Which for a trailer that weighs 3,000 lbs I'd recommend going with 3,700 lb axle springs like # SP-040275 which are 30 inches long. This means you'll need to move out your old hangers wider which we have replacements with # 115706S.

  • Replacement Slipper Springs for 1985 Harding Boat Trailer
I do have options for you but exact replacements for old boat trailers are hard to come by. In the majority of cases, items will need to be altered for an exact fit which I assume is what is going to need to be done on your trailer as well. We don't have a slipper spring that is 1-3/4" wide x 28" long (center of eye to end of spring) with a 2,500, 3,000, or 3,500 lb capacity. However, leaf springs will fatten out over time which means the leaf spring that was originally installed on the...

  • Can Slipper Springs be Used in Place of Double-Eye Leaf Springs on a Trailer
If the trailer currently uses double-eye spring suspension then you will want to use slipper spring hangers if you want to switch spring types. Double-eye hangers would not work in the manner you have described because the shackle bolts are not large enough in diameter. I have included a link to the slipper spring hangers that we offer.

  • Replacement Rear Hanger for Shorelandr Boat Trailer with 1-3/4 Inch Wide Slipper Springs
If you are looking for a weld-on option we have 1 rear slipper spring hanger that fits 1-3/4 inch wide trailer suspension slipper springs. It is # 115706S. Please note that any welding should be performed by a professional welder. For a bolt-on option we have # CE14017G. I have also included a link to our help article on slipper spring suspension for you.

  • Will Slipper Spring Hanger # 115706S Work with a 2 or 3 Slipper Spring
As long as the slipper spring you have has a width of 1-3/4 inches and the spring eye diameter is 9/16 of an inch this Rear Hanger for Slipper Spring # 115706S would work well for you. I attached an FAQ article on slipper spring trailer suspension for you to check out also.

  • Replacement Slipper Spring for Lightweight 4 x 8 Folding Trailer
Do you know the axle capacity? It sounds like you have a lightweight utility trailer. If that's the case, we can get you very close to your original slipper springs. For a 1500 lb axle, use # SP-178275 or # SP-177275 for a 1000 lb axle. Because these springs are about an inch longer than the existing, you'll need to grind off the existing rear hanger and weld a new rear hanger like # 115706S in, about an inch reward of the old rear hanger.
