What Wiring Do I Need?

Optronics PL-3 Connection

This light has a standard 3-prong plug that connects to your vehicle or trailer with a PL-3 pigtail adapter. Pick up the right-angle pigtail (A47PB - sold separately) or the straight pigtail (A45PB - sold separately) if you don't have one already.

How to Mount Trailer Light

This light installs in a grommet (A70GB - sold separately) and requires cutting a hole into your trailer if it doesn't already have one.

If you'd rather not cut a hole in your trailer, you can use an optional mounting bracket (BK70BB - sold separately) instead. You will still need the A70GB grommet.

  • What Size Should the Mounting Hole Be for Optronics Trailer Light # STL22RCB
When drilling holes for the trailer lights, # STL22RCB, you can use a 2-1/2 inch hole saw and then use a file or rotary tool to enlarge the holes to the 2-5/8 inches needed for the rubber grommet , # a70gb. When you do drill the holes, make sure that the outside edge of each hole is 6-3/4 inches apart for the overall length of the light. I have included a picture that shows the dimensions of the hole that the grommet fits into.

  • Lighting Requirements for Boat Trailers for Updating to Submersible LED Lights
For boat trailers we recommend using submersible type lights which have a drain hole to allow water to exit the fixture. We also recommend always disconnecting the trailer connector before backing the boat into the water, even if you have submersible lights. On the linked page you can view all submersible LED type grommet-mount lights that we offer. Usually a combination stop/turn/tail light like # STL111RB is employed. I also included a link to a helpful article on the lighting requirements...

  • Troubleshooting Lack Of Braking Power With A Hayes Energize III+ Brake Controller
Hey Josh, The Custom Wiring Adapter for Hayes Brake Controllers # HA81785-HBC you used to plug in your Hayes Energize III+ Trailer Brake Controller # HA81742B would have a ground. Since it's lighting up we know it's getting power and this isn't a fuse issue so it's likely a wiring issue with either the 7-way on your Lexus or with the trailer wiring. You'll want to use a multimeter # PT89ZR to test the brake controller output pin on the Lexus' 7-way when the manual override is being...

  • Pigtail Recommendation for Use with Clearance Light Part STL22RCB for Additional Clearance
You are absolutely correct. The 90 degree pigtail part # A47PB would give you the needed clearance to install the part # STL22RCB. This would be exactly what you need.

  • Is There an Amber Version Available For Optronics Micro-Flex LED Lights # STL22RCB
Yes, we have an amber version of the Micro-Flex LED lights, the Optronics Miro-Flex Sealed 6-1/2 Inch Oval LED Light, part # STL22CCAB. This light also features 12 diodes and has the same dimensions as the # STL22RCB light that you referenced. To mount this light, you will want to use the Rubber Grommet for 6-1/2 Inch Oval Trailer Tail Lights, part # a70gb. The correct wiring connector you will need is the Optronics 3-Wire Pigtail, part # A45PB.

  • Availability of a 6-1/2 Inch Oval Tail Light with Chrome Bezel and Round LED Marker Lights
There is a Stainless Steel Mounting bracket, # 337LB1SS, that can be used for mounting the light but we do not have a chrome bezel for the 6-1/2 inch Oval, LED Trailer Stop/Turn/Tail Light, # STL22RCB. You will also need a grommet, # A70GB, and a straight, # A45PB or right angle, # A47PB, pigtail harness for installation and wiring of the light. We have 11/16 inch round clearance lights. For amber lights you would need the Mini LED Side Marker and Clearance Light, # MCL11AKB, and for red...

  • Looking for 6-1/2 Inch Oval LED Trailer Light to Use for Back Up Light
We do indeed have a 6-1/2 inch oval LED lamp that is DOT certified for use as a backup light. The part # is BUL22CB. A utility light like the one you referenced, part # BUL78CB is not DOT compliant because the clear lens allows the light to be bright enough to be blinding. A wiring pigtail, part # A45CB and grommet, part # A70GB will also be needed.
